I know this hotel is being talked about some through valve trips. We just booked it this past weekend.

Do you guys think we need a rental car if we stay here. We are just looking to go to the beach maybe. Also just maybe some shopping or walking around to see the area if its located in a walking area. Plus something good to eat. Thanks for all the help. We are just staying one night before our cruise.

Thanks CC

Hyatt Place is on the Beach side of the causeway and not a bad walk to the beach, or take the Trolley. Water Taxi is close by also.

OP - take a look at Google Maps. To determine if you want to walk to the beach or water taxi you need to take into account distance and South Florida weather. A walk that might be delightful in January could be debilitating in August. Hyatt Place is approximately one mile west of the Hilton Marina (and its water taxi stop; see http://www.watertaxi.com) and almost 2 miles west of Fort Lauderdale Beach. As milewise48 notes, both are accessible via the sun trolley (http://www.suntrolley.com for $1/ride or $3/day pass) that has a terminus right next to Hyatt Place in front of the Publix in the Harbor Shops shopping center (http://www.theharborshops.com). Alternatively, the distances are not much so a taxi or Uber is very reasonable (Uber generally cheaper).

Thanks for all the info what about places to eat around it?

Sounds like the trolley would be the way to go maybe.

Here are relatively recent threads about restaurants in the 17th Street corridor:

Since you are just staying one night prior to your cruise, I would not rent a car (you have to pay for parking at the Hyatt Place). Use Sun Trolle to the beach (you catch it one block away at the Publix). Lots of dining options nearby.

Water Taxi is nice, but its about one mile away and costs a bit over $20 pp. Unless you have 4-6 hours or more to burn, I would skip this.
