tring Posted July 14, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 14, 2017 We are on a cruise from the UK to Mauritius next Oct/Nov, via the Med and with a stop in Salalah, Oman after we leave the Red Sea, and we are thinking of risking a rather nice cabin near the front of the ship, which could get pretty rocky in bad seas. This is obviously a risk going through the Bay of Biscay and to a lesser extent the Med at that time of year, but does anyone have any idea of the likelihood is of having rough seas to the East of Africa, after we leave the Red Sea. We are well cruised and realise seas are what they are at any time of year, but some seasons are more likely to suffer than others, regards hurricanes etc. in different parts of the world. It looks like the stormy season near Mauritius is in Feb/Mar (their late summer), but do not know about the seas further north. Can anyone help regards this? tring Posted August 12, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted August 12, 2017 Sailed to Mauritius last year from Sri Lanka via the Seychelles and Reunion Is and it was flat calm but that was late March. Thanks. Must admit I seem to imagine The area near the Seychelles always being calm and the tropical regions are normally not that bad - but will see when we get there. We were looking at a cabin near the front of the ship, which was the real problem, but we have gone for something a bit more central, so not too much of a worry now. Rare Keith1010 Posted August 13, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 13, 2017 The realiity is you cannot be sure. I've sailed this area multiple times but would say the same about almost any area in the world. I would just come prepared to deal with preventing sea sickness just in case you encounter any rough seas. That's what we do. Lots of options for that.
