Aplmac Posted June 3, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 3, 2009 . I've been writing to ask about cruise-cards, here on the Memorabilia section and at other CC Message Board locations but it seems no one collects cruise cards beyond saving their own 'Sail & Sign' cards as a memento, only to be forgotten in a drawer somewhere! I've recently discovered it's not that difficult to ask around among friends and acquaintances -even in my small island community- to receive cards that turn out to be quite interesting. Now that I have a few different ones (Carnival mostly) I'm seeing all sorts of major and minor design changes that make a collection worthwhile. As a collector, you already know that variation is the basis for all collections. For what it's worth here are a few cards I've recently acquired.. After returning from a memorable cruise, most people don't throw out their cruise cards, I'm sure.. they serve as an integral part of your holiday memories. They get stuck away somewhere, not seeing the light of day for years! Anyone who's been saving their old cruise cards 'for a reason, but not quite sure just what' might consider donating them to a collector like me? Please? Are there any other cruise-card collectors? -I'd love to know! Please have a dig around to see what you can find. Oh by the way...I live on the Caribbean island of Barbados and this is one of my local beaches. Thought you might like to see. .

And where did you get the blank cards? - you pestered someone at the Purser's Desk for them, huh? :) ............................................ Just got this one just last night - it's an early Royal Caribbean card from 1995  I immediately noticed it was thinner and more flexible than today's card. -with a magnetic strip on the back, and a strangely-rough hole in it like a regular machine punch wasn't used? . The star holes tell staff about ages or if they paid for the unlimited soft drink refills if i remember correctly. Yes, i had to beg for the two blank cards :) Im going to try and get some more blanks when i go on the Monarch in a few weeks :)
Aplmac Posted June 7, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted June 7, 2009 (edited) The card with the silhouette of people on it is what they were issuing to people under 21. ===> The Party Ppl - yes,I know...the kid upstairs in one! Yes, i had to beg for the two blank cards :) I'm going to try and get some more blanks when i go on the Monarch in a few weeks ===> Ask for one fer me, too? Please? The kid upstairs...her Dad is a cruise-ship Captain  I got some cards from her, along with various 'interpretations' This card shows a Coca-Cola sticker which signifies the free soda thing but you could be right too. I asked her about the round holes...she said they are to indicate Under-Age status. I was thinking maybe the star-holes signified something Casino-related? or entertainment-related? Who knows! You might notice too..that your card.. already has a red Coco-Cola sticker on it.. ............................................ Someone else gave me this card with the two stickers you see -they couldn't remember what they were for but probably for free soda or something like that? . Got Fish! Posted June 8, 2009 #10 Share Posted June 8, 2009 I am an avid Cruise ship room key collector. I have about 225 different room keys and Casino Player cards from the ships and casino day boats. I have some duplicates to trade for keys I need for my collection. If you are interested, please email me. Since I just joined the Cruise Critic, I do not know how to post pictures here yet so I would be able to send you scans to your email. It is a GREAT Hobby and you get to meet a wonderful bunch of people with a common interest. Also, I collect the chips from the casino of the tables. Usually only $5 and under and the ships sometimes have special chips for Innaugural Seasons or having a special preforming star on board. If you have any interest in that, just let me know. albertscalzo@gmail.com Albert

Albert To post pictures....you can either make direct attachments to your post by using the Manage Attachments button further down the page where you compose your post.. -OR have a stash of pix already somewhere out on the intenet like I do (at a Photobucket account --and/or on the CC Photo Gallery) and then you simply link to those shots! The former method(direct attachment to your post) results in rather small pics but still gets 'the message' across. The latter method(linking to P-bucket or the Photo Gallery) results in considerably larger pics. Hope this helps to get you started. Perhaps you should go over to http://photobucket.com/ and sign up for a free account to get started? . Edited June 8, 2009 by aplmac

Aplmac Posted June 8, 2009 Author #13 Share Posted June 8, 2009 Thank you Aplmac for the help. Here is a sample of my collection!!! Glad to help out: it's really easy once you get the hang of how it works! :) .......................................... Those are wonderful old Carnival cards you're showing us, there! Nice to see the variation visible in the overall-blue cards from the 07-08 period. I'm discovering much minor variation, in between the (2 yrs. average) larger design changes Carnival makes to their cards. I've also come to realize that small variations often escape a quick inspection -until you get cards side-by-side and take a really close look. E.g. the inclusion, size and position of the directional arrows varies considerably, I've found. Thank you for showing us. .
Aplmac Posted June 11, 2009 Author #14 Share Posted June 11, 2009 (edited) I was given this early Carnival card just today! How many of you remember cards like this from back in 1998 ? Can't help but feel that this is some sort of special staff card or travel agent card -not the normal issue. . I'm using webshots and the link they say to use to post in a forum. any ideas?? i'm sure it's something simple i'm missing. ===> It always is!! :D From what I can make out above it seems you may have left out the first html command box.. ..which was to be bit Does that make sense? Although I don't, maybe you should try clicking the little Insert Image button visible above where one composes the post-to-be. Aplmac Posted June 18, 2009 Author #22 Share Posted June 18, 2009 I keep hoping that some kind person out there will use a magnet to void the info on the magnetic strip and send me their 'dead'/cancelled Carnival credit-card for my collection of cruise-cards -the one with the nice photo of the ship!? :) I don't otherwise stand a chance in Hell of ever acquiring it (see where I live?) I'll also accept any and every cruise card from any and every cruise-line (so many I don't have yet) -I'm NOT into identity theft.. ..I have a rather strong one of my own, thanks, -and besides.. I'm already richer than you! ;) :D So please...anyone who might contribute please stick your old/dead/un-used cards in an envelope (NO Scotch tape please --it peels the layers apart!) and send your envelope to: David Hunt (my real name) 3, Erdiston Drive Pine Gardens, St.Michael, BARBADOS, W.Indies (now you know where I live too!) Thank you for your consideration. .................... Please click on URL.. http://s177.photobucket.com/albums/w.../Ship%20CARDS/ to see what I've collected so far. . Got Fish! Posted June 23, 2009 #23 Share Posted June 23, 2009 Hi Seadancer, Nice cards. I also collect them but don't care about my name on them although I do have 6 cruises under my belt. I am going to a convention next week in Las Vegas where there will be some ship keys for sale and trade. Have fun at what ever you like doing! I like your quote... How far are you from West Palm Beach? Take care, Albert
