islegroove Posted July 11, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 11, 2014 The Tourism Authority is going to try to recruit the cruise lines to reposition some ships IF Bermuda hosts the America's Cup as a way to get more visitors here for the event. They are going to five lines but the article only mentions four: Aida, Silversea, Oceania and Viking. http://www.bermudasun.bm/Content/NEWS/News/Article/Pitch-to-cruise-lines-for-America-s-Cup/24/270/79083
Mark_K Posted July 12, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 12, 2014 If so, that would be great. We did a Celebrity cruise last fall specifically because it stopped in San Francisco during the racing. Here are some pics taken from the ship: Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
jollyjones Posted July 12, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 12, 2014 I was in San Francisco last fall pre-cruise and thoroughly enjoyed the racing. Unfortunately, cruising to Bermuda for the racing in 2017 wouldn't make much sense for me ...
duct tape Posted July 12, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 12, 2014 We were on the Shadow/Whisper for the AC in Auckland a few years ago. Great fun and race viewing. The RNZYS had a team onboard giving wind readings to the racers from the pool deck. i am not very confident that Bermuda will be the venue, but I would like it there. Cruise lines already do a lot of east coast US to Bermuda cruises with 2-3 days in Bermuda that seem to be popular. I would see it as an extension of that. Still, I will be surprised if San Diego isn't chosen. Logistically, it seems a lot simpler. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

Generally I always have to fly to be able to cruise but last year I did 14 days roundtrip FLL - FLL on the Spirit then was able to tack on the first three days of her transatlantic crossing and was able to disembark in Bermuda - a very civilised way of getting home!
