tbonecopper Posted January 6, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Do I need Euros to purchase things at vendors like Sarafina's? Or will they accept card/USD cash? Same goes for other places on both sides of the island... cash, or can I use card?
Goldenfox Posted January 6, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 6, 2015 USD and cards accepted everywhere. No need for Euros, at least based on my experience. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
tbonecopper Posted January 6, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Thanks. I've read about the French side quite a bit and everyone is recommending bring Euros + places don't take cards. How recently did you go to St Martin (dutch and french) Goldenfox?
Goldenfox Posted January 6, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Dutch side, last month, Dec 2013 and Nov 2012. French side, Dec 2013 and Nov 2012. Didn't go this last time. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

tbonecopper Posted January 6, 2015 Author #6 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Awesome, thanks so much for the information. You've saved me a lot of hassle from ordering Euros :)
navybankerteacher Posted January 6, 2015 #7 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Actually, while all places accept US $, a few of the smaller places in St. Martin will accept them one-for-one in lieu of euros - making it far better to have saved yourself the hassle of obtaining euros. tbonecopper Posted January 7, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted January 7, 2015 Oh, fantastic! I was dreading ordering Euros for such a small amount of time. If I were going to Europe or something, sure, I'd be there at least a week. But not for a trip that lasts 8 hours. :)
Rare Stockjock Posted January 8, 2015 #9 Share Posted January 8, 2015 I've been to St. Maarten twice. Not only do most business take US dollars, but some took them at the same rate as Euros, which works to your benefit. For example, a couple of years ago, cocktails on Orient Beach were the same price in dollars and Euro and I recall other examples from years back.
