Yes I did...

Booked a Yacht Club Suite on the Divina. Suite 16005 (forward facing). :) :)

Miami to Bermuda to Bahamas.....

Now to spend the next 18 months exploring.....

We have a forward facing suite booked on the Norwegian Sun in April. That will be our tail tail sign of if we will like forward facing cabins. We know we do not want a aft facing one.....

Hope to find some good videos of the cabin before we go and will just spend time on the web reading all before I go...

Now I am worried about the deck above and all the chairs being moved....:(

Oh yes you have FireEater!!!! Great Choice I must say!!!! You may hear the deck chairs being moved in the morning however. We were in 16008 and I heard them almost every morning between 7:00am and 8:00am. The noise isn't all that bad and never woke my girlfriend up. I was up at 6:00am each day so that's why I noticed it.

This cruise has caught my interest as of late. I'm currently booked on the Carnival Pride for a 5 day Bermuda Cruise in April 2016, but am considering making the switch to this cruise because of the 3 days in Bermuda. I have been reading the boards here and reading reviews and it seems like the Divina is a great ship!

My concern is, as I understand it, MSC committed to having a ship in the US full time and then they changed their minds and the Divina is sailing in the Med next year with the plan on coming back to the US. Should I be worried about them changing their minds and cancelling their US cruises for 2016? I just don't' want to cancel my Carnival Bermuda cruise, book with MSC only to find out that they changed their minds and won't do the US anymore.

I hope for your sake she does! Since it's so far out my plan is to hold off on making any decisions and maybe make the switch sometime next year. After all, I do have a year and a half to think it over

Yes we are also looking at that Bermuda cruise for 4/16 but like you said there is plenty of time because they said they were staying in Miami year round after they came back in Nov 2015 but now they are leaving again at the end of April 2016, so who knows what there plans are really going to be.

Whilst I can't assure you they definitely will send her back (no one can), I can tell you that they have had at least one ship sailing out of the US for more than 10 years. Over this time they have deployed increasingly larger ships. They spent a lot on marketing for the Divina coming and increasing awareness. It would be strange if they pulled the plug all together after that. Also bear in mind that they are not just thinking of the US market in bringing a ship to home port in the US but their hard core European customer base who want a winter holiday in the sun.

I was in a forward-facing cabin (16003) on Splendida and, personally, would not recommend it (unless, like Mike, you're in one of the YC3 cabins). The view was limited due to the hull in front and it was windy most of the time to the point where you couldn't have the balcony door open. Saying that, it was in February in the Med and we had some extremely bad weather - the wind howled and rattled that door something terrible at night.

I don't think there were any chairs being moved above us - not in Feb in the Med, LOL so I can't comment on whether that would be a problem or not!

I would only ever book a side cabin after that experience. On my recent cruise I was in 15027 on Preziosa (she's identical to Divina) and it was perfect with a great balcony with glass panel. I'll be on Divina next September and, again, I've booked a side cabin. I've chosen Deck 15 as it's on the same level as the Top Sail Lounge :D

Bea,,,Our pvc booked us in stateroom 16001 for our TA next October. Once I received the documents and saw that stateroom number I immediately called him back and had him move us to a YC1 stateroom off to the side. I'm not a fan of the forward facing staterooms just because of the balcony with the glass wind screen. We really didn't care for the balcony on our YC3(Royal Suite) stateroom either, but loved the separate living room and bedroom areas.

We experienced horrible rattling of our balcony divider at night when we sailed in 16009 back in May Bea. I noticed the metal spring was sort of bent in the divider door,,wedging some folded up cardboard between the door and the latch took care of that problem!!!:)

That balcony in the YC3 suite is weird, really!

Well done on discovering the source of the rattling - we had an unmerciful racket in the cabin during the bad weather but it seemed like the ceiling was creaking. I don't think any amount of cardboard would have sorted it

Would you advise FireEater to change cabins? I know I would but that would just be my personal opinion.

It would be my personal opinion as well Bea. I like the size of the balconies in the forward staterooms,,but not the location of the railing or the wind screen. However,,,I like the openness of the side stateroom balconies, but not the size, so it comes down to personal preference it seems. Hopefully, the YC stateroom balconies on the new builds will be a little different.

We agree with your comments, and would like to add that with the new ships MSC is building, and will build in the next 8 years, MSC will double their company's cabins at sea, so at least one ship out of America could actually turn into more!

Also MSC has a second ship in the winters ported at La Romana, Dominican Republic that tours the Caribbean! We look forward to taking this cruise in the future!:)

Well, I am limited as I needed a handicap cabin for my wife and her scooter plus a shower and no tub. The only YC ones are on deck 16, facing forward. Initially I was looking for non YC handicap balcony cabin, but those are located to where the views below are the life boats and the view forward and aft are limited with the shape of the hull.

I have until January 2016 to canx and get my full deposit back if I change my mind.

O well, I will muddle through the Yacht Club life if I have to !!! :)

That certainly puts a different slant on things, alright.

The YC, for all its plusses, has quite a few drawbacks. Are you aware, for example, that the dedicated restaurant is at the aft and that the optimum way to get to it is to go down to Deck 7 and traverse the length of the ship for an elevator to take you back up to Deck 15! At dinnertime this is going to be the busiest time where crowds gather on deck 7 and the elevators are in great demand.

Actually, deck 12 (for sure) goes all the way from front to back so you don't need to get to the dining room by going through the more public decks. I believe higher decks do as well but we were in the YC cabin on deck 12 and discovered this was much faster.

Yes I know the restaurant is aft. Happens a lot, so it is no big deal for us. Means I will just work off my meal with the walk afterwards.....

As to the path and elevator wait, we are also use to that as well. Have found it to be a PITA, but as long as I do not flame out with rude people, I am fine... :o

My sentiments, exactly. I actually enjoy the walk from one end of the ship to the other. Coming down from the restaurant always landed me right outside my favourite haunt, however, which was the Safari Lounge where I spent the night dancing the calories off!!

You're right and I know you would have experience being in YC2 but I found it very boring and it seemed longer when walking the cabin corridors. There's such a buzz down around the central atrium area as well which made it a more enjoyable route.

My experience with the butlers when showing the way to the restaurant was that they'd lead you down to Deck 7. I was once escorted to the restaurant using Deck 14! That was on Splendida - I tried that route on Preziosa (identical to Divina) and had to go through the crowded buffet so wasn't the ideal way to go!

  • 3 weeks later...
Do you know if there is free Internet anywhere for YC guests? If not what packages are available and what do they cost? Thanks.

Internet is not free in YC :(

I can't answer for pricings on Divina as I've only sailed in the Med where € is the onboard currency.
