CAS Question

On my last cruise, in September, I went from Lucky to Hot. I know the point status goes to March 31. My next cruise is May 2. Do I start at Lucky Again or do I get the perks from the Hot status?

Chances are you will drop, last year I dropped from golden to hot for 1 day, I did not lose all my points just 1400ish and went back up the same day. It depends on the dates you earned them. Send an email to CAS and ask for a breakdown for the year, you will see what will drop off (any points before April 2013)

I called CAS to ask about this. I had made Golden in November and cruised with that status in February. It looks like I will now drop back to Hot until I earn another 3000 points. However, the perks that came with Golden didn't do much for me. We did get two days of spa passes, but I really didn't need the premium drinks in the casino as our next cruises will all have UBP. There has been talk that they will be working on more perks for the different tiers but I haven't seen anything yet. Anyone just off a cruise have more info?

I think your rep is wrong, the new CAS as of April 1st is your points revert to zero but you still carry over your tier from the previous year. If between April 1st 2014 to March 31, 2015 you earned 15001 points you will retain your Golden status for 4/1/2015 to 3/31/2016 otherwise you will drop to Hot for this year. They no longer allow you to carry your points forward so you would need another 15001 points to regain your Golden status.

I already requested a point tally for last year and even though I had 29 thousand points I lost 21 thousand of them (making me hot for 2015-2016) because of the time frame they were earned. To go back up to Golden I need to start from scratch and get 15001 points between now and April 1, 2016.

I hope that makes sense but if it doesnt ask me any question and I will try to clarify for you.

Wow! That makes it tough. At our regular casinos (CET- Harrahs, Rio, etc) if you earn a level status you get to keep that status through the following year. Not sure if there is any upside to trying to make a tier upgrade at CAS .

We agree, the system has never made sense to me and my wife. We both always make VIP, but come every April 1 they drop us back to Gold. They can never explain why or how the points work in our circumstances. They just repeat the wording that your status is determined by how many points April 1- March 31. Well, if that were the case, and we achieved VIP during the year why wouldn't we be VIP the next April 1. Nobody on the ships nor in Miami have ever been able to explain it.

Yes I spent almost 40 minutes on the phone with someone from casino at sea yesterday trying to get it explain and they're very repetitive on their explanation even though I wasn't getting it. And the representative seem to get frustrated with me for not understanding and gave me no clarification whatsoever as to the tier perks that are now in place versus the ones each tier had prior. Do any of you know what the parks used to be and that new instated perks.

They kept referring to adding new perks come April 1st but I haven't seen any difference at all on NCL's web page to date.

I noticed a couple of differences myself on the website the day spa pass versus a spa credit and no free pack of cigarettes anymore, mind you that was just on the gold status that I remember

Those changes accrued earlier and were in effect on my February 2015 cruise.

But I do have to say that although the sun seemed to be more generous with their perks from the casino. Full spa treatments and multiple dinners for two and I must say it was probably my most enjoyable casino based cruise that I've had to date. But that was probably because I was solo that trip LOL

They are trying to mirror land based casinos by using points earned within a one year period but it just doesn't work for cruises. They really ought to use the last 2 or 3 cruises, pick a number, as long as they have been within say 2 years, or 3 years.

How it plays out for us is just plain bizarre. My husband and I both were VIP last year through March 31 of this year, and earned enough points in 2014 that I am now VIP again this year and he is Golden through March 31, 2016. We usually take 2 cruises a year, but for a variety of reasons, we can only do one this year, and it was in February.

Our next cruise is booked for April 2016, and then another for September 2016. But we will not be cruising during the entire rating period this year, i.e., April 1, 2015 thru March 31, 2016. So, according to CAS, even though we are comped for Haven suites by CAS for BOTH our April and September 2016 cruises, we will only be LUCKY. It really only has a small impact in two areas for us since we are in the Haven, and got the UBP and UDP as part of the promotion. So we still get drinks, tender and show seating priority, etc But we will not get the spa credit, and we will not be credited the convenience and cash advance fees for taking cash out on our room card. Stupid decision on their part because we bring relatively limited cash because we don't want to carry it around, and when I run out of cash, I take money from my key card. But I absolutely will not do that if they are going to charge me for it, so when I run out, I will be done. I know I could go through the hassle of establishing markers, but I am not going to do that either. Too much work and I don't want to provide them with all my banking info. Very stupid decision on their part if they do not agree in advance to to comp off my cash advance and convenience fees. I guess we will see.

But it is a very odd system that can work very odd results.

Terry, before I became VIP I spoke with a host and she did give me that perk so I didn't have to pay the 3%. They did that after a few days and saw my play so it wouldn't hurt for you to ask!

Question: i've never purchased the FCC. But it certainly sounds like a fantastic deal. I have a cruise October 31 another January 23 and another November 11th. All three are paid in full including DSC but Not counting the extras ,excursions etc. If I purchase FFC on the October 31st cruise, can it or they be applied to the 2 already booked and paid in full cruises?

You can not use an FCC on a 'paid in full' cruise....or for DSC paid in full or not.

For those of us who started with NCL using offers from CET, it bothers me that they don't update your tier credits from cruises on your CET account. If you use a CET certificate, they do get a piece of the action. So they know how much you played. I don't see why they can't link the 2 club points. I saw that MGM and Royal and Celebrity are doing it. Wasn't CAS supposed to be the best players club at sea. Seems like others are passing them by.
