Port Shopping

Will be doing POA on Oct. 3. First time on NCL; first time in Hawaii. On port days that we don't have much planned, would like to do some shopping. Not looking for rare treasures, but not looking to start a shot glass collection either. Anything nearby to the ship? We've not booked a thing for our day in Kona --- any shopping recommendations there?

Google "Totally Hawaiian Gift Gallery" on Maui just to see if that merchandise is the type of shopping you are looking for or not (we are just guessing that this is what you have in mind). Stores of that type are more in the resort areas and not at the port. If you stay close to the ship there are two malls but, at least to us, they are pretty plain. If you can be a bit more specific about what type of merchandise you are looking for, we're sure someone on this message board can point you in the right direction.

Walking along Alii Drive in Kona(right after you exit the pier) will offer both some privately owned shops, as well as, ABC and General Whalers stores. If you keep walking you will run into the 'flea market" Again, some locally made treasures, some items imported from China and some stuff purchased from other businesses on the Island. You can find some local Kona Coffee farmers selling products here as well. It is an easy walk.

Sometimes an additional small bazar is set up on the beach next to the King Kamehameha hotel. This often offers locally made products.

In Kona, can you walk to a beach? is there any post offices close by within walking distances?

There is a small beach right next to the pier at the King Kamehameha hotel. There is a post office up Palani about four blocks on the right. Palani dead ends at the pier. It is a fairly steep hill.
