Renting a car

Has anyone rented a car in St. Lucia? what did you do?

Hundreds of thousands of people have rented cars in St Lucia. However, very much NOT recommended for a one day cruise visitor who is on limited time. The roads are narrow and winding anice d mountainous and sights are not well marked, not to mention they are far from the port. Also, we drive on the left with right hand drive cars (British system) which can be disorienting to some. Along with the cost of a rental is the temporary driving permit too...Your best bet is to hire a driver or take a tour to see the sights. That way, some one else can do the driving while you relax and enjoy.

  • 4 weeks later...

we are renting one in two weeks for a port day. total price (including the permit) is $80 plus gas...i don't know what cab costs for a day, but i would assume it is more than that. we like to go at our own pace and have driven in some "crazy" driving areas (think naples italy) and have never had any problems.

have a great trip.
