Checked baggage - oversized/extra charge?

I was wondering if any of my fellow cruise critic members had any kind of experience in American Airlines baggage policies and or Southwest when checking in bags? We are using Mia Toro Perla 28" hardside luggage, 1 for each of us, 3 total we are going to use for our upcoming Jan 2016 11 day cruise + 4 land day trip, I know you can not go over 50LBS but I read on some people having been charged for oversized bags on 28" luggage. It states they are 62L inches on both eBAGS and Mia Toro website, should I be concerned?

THANKS!

A 28" hard-side should be OK as long as you don't go over 50LBS.

Where you have to be careful is with carry on luggage. The IATA is trying get airlines to reduce the size of carryon's . The new recommendation has all dimensions about 1 inch less on all three sides and 4 kilos ( 10 lbs) lighter.

Thanks I was thinking it should be ok, and as far as carry on, no worries there from me as I am way too lazy.......:D

For the time being IATA has pulled back on the carry on issue. The big 3 airlines requested the halt for the foreseeable future.

The carry on, particularly if it is a former USAir station, could be placed in the sizer. I have had issues with them before, and not in a very pleasant way.
