The #1 train is right at South Ferry, but it would take you five avenues from the pier with the possibility of transferring to a crosstown bus. Is that something you really want to do with a group of 10 people? If so, I'm sure folks can give you detailed directions and the pros and cons. It looks like the South Ferry station is not marked as being accessible, which means you have to hump, your luggage down to the train. How much stuff are you going to have with 10 people?

The new (and handicapped accessible with an elevator) South Ferry subway station was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. The old station, which has no elevator, was reopened to be used while the new station is being reconstructed.

In addition the "old" or shall we say original South Ferry Station only the first 5 cars open at the station of the 10 car train. During Rush (AM/PM) hour the station and 5 cars are very crowded with narrow stairs as well with every NY'er moving at their normal pace (everyone else that is "rushing") to "catch the boat".

You could take the ferry and split up into three cabs but it sure sounds like everyone else here suggested some type of van service.

Mid-Island Car Service is another Staten Island car service (privately owned) you could try.

Carmel Limo has a van for $188 on a bogus online booking from Eltingville Staten Island without Tolls and Tip.
