Hawaii Cruise November 2016

We have booked an excursion to the Vocanic Park in Hilo but want to explore with no time restraints on the other islands, would like some input how to get around, what is our best bet, rent a car or ride the city bus? Any insight would be appreciated!:)

We rented cars except for Maui, where we just walked around Lahaina and to a nearby beach.

We did this cruise last thanksgiving and rented a car in every port. the rental company picked up at each port. Renting through Hawaii discount cars was always cheaper than from the company directly.
