Jayneykul Posted April 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 7, 2014 Last year on our first voyage (QV Hong Kong to Singapore) we were allowed to carry on a bottle of gin and vodka for pre-dinner drinks on the balcony we thought this a particular great aspect of Cunard we are not cheapskates and purchased wine with our meals and a drink or 2 in the ballroom after dinner but this policy has changed this year and you are only allowed 1 bottle of wine or champagne per guest.seeing as the price is the same if not more than celebrity with a drinks package thrown in we might have thought twice had we had the foresight to check this not very happy

I believe that Cunard's stated policy has been to permit one bottle of wine or champagne per person for the several years, so there's been no change in policy that I can see. But what happens in reality is very different, as you experienced on your first voyage last year. -S.

Underwatr Posted April 8, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 8, 2014 (edited) The Cunard FAQ states their alcohol policy as follows: Passengers are permitted to bring one bottle of wine OR champagne per person (over the age of 21) onboard, however all passengers should be aware of the below policies - We reserve the right to remove alcohol at the gangway should the need arise. It is not our intention to invoke this policy as a matter of course and we will only implement on occasions where we consider it likely that the health, comfort, safety and enjoyment of passengers may otherwise be compromised. This can be interpreted a couple of different ways but in practice it can be taken to mean that they reserve the right to restrict carrying on amounts in excess of one bottle of wine or champagne per person, but do not intend to do that as a matter of routine. We have regularly carried on additional wine and hard liquor both on embarkation and at ports of call and have never been questioned in this even though the packages are passed through the screening systems with no attempted evasion on our part. I think the stated limit gives them a basis for enforcement should they find it necessary to limit quantities in a particular instance, but not something that they have an intent to enforce across the board like other lines may do. Jayneykul Posted April 8, 2014 Author #9 Share Posted April 8, 2014 Apologies for the double post clearly had had 1 over the 8! Thank you for your replies. I wasnt aware there was any restriction last year so thought it was a new implementation. We put 1 bottle of wine in our case on NCL Pride of America and had to go to the naughty room for our luggage. The wine was confiscated and never returned. Nor did we. we would never sail with them again its just downright petty. I can understand if you taking the mickey but 1 bottle?
Underwatr Posted April 8, 2014 #10 Share Posted April 8, 2014 For what it's worth, on those other cruise lines box wine is less likely to be recognized as such... ;)
Jim Avery Posted April 8, 2014 #11 Share Posted April 8, 2014 Sort of makes the all inclusives look good. They don't care how much you bring on board. Less of theirs you will drink.:D
Pushka Posted April 8, 2014 #12 Share Posted April 8, 2014 There were no issues with a couple on our table bringing on a bottle of gin during the current WC. As well as a couple of bottles of wine. Be reasonable and they will be too. But it might depend on the Port. This was Sydney, Australia.
