First Cruise carnival Liberty

I am going on my very first cruise on carnival liberty. I am going with 11 other people, 7 kids and and 5 adults. I am just wanting tips and things to do. I was told carnival has hidden fees once you get on the ship. Is this true? Any information you have to help us have the best cruise will be helpful.

Did you prepay gratuities? If no, then you will have that fee. Are you drinking anything other than water, tea or lemonade? If yes, you have to pay for anything you drink that is not one of those. Unless you order off the $20 section at dinner, which is not really worth it and there are numerous other free choices, I can't think of any other "hidden" fees you could incur. Maybe I'm forgetting something. Have fun!

Yeah from my experience usually when people complain that there are "hidden fees" its because they somehow didn't know that they automatically charge your gratuities during the cruise if you don't prepay them

Could you tell me how to determine if I pre paid gratuities. I was looking at the list on the site for the Liberty of what is included in the fare and in that list it indicates gratuities and tips. Am I wrong in thinking that they have been included in my price?

Check on your cabin confirmation. It is listed under optional charges. 61d8684dd93f755bfcfedf5d8fb712be.jpg

Thanks, I see that I did not. Now is there a way to go back and do that now so that I know that part has been completed and then the only charges to my account will be what I actually do on the cruise? It just helps my to have in my mind what is and is not there. Thanks for your response.

I think you can under online check in but I am not certain. I'm sure there is someone on here that can tell you how to do it.

Other than the prepaid gratuities, I do not consider anything else hidden fee. Once you read you will pretty much know what there will be a charge for. I think most (if not all) cabins have now emptied the mini refrigerators so now that's not something you have to worry about paying for if you drink from it.

These are some other obvious things, not mentioned above, you will have to pay for if you decide to use them:

Casino

Spa

Bingo

Kids casino

Night Camp for kids

and of course anything from the gift shops/candy store.

There really aren't any charges that are HIDDEN from anyone. Basically, unless it is specifically included in your fare, you will pay for it (a good rule of thumb that if you have to sign for it, you have to pay for it, with the exception of drinks under the Cheers or Bottomless Bubbles programs).

These are some things that you will have to pay for (and all are optional):

  • Auto-gratuities
  • Tips for room service (room service itself is included)
  • Upcharged room service items (they are specifically mentioned on the menu)
  • Upcharged items in the dining room (they are specifically mentioned on the menu, everything else is included)
  • Drinks other than milk, water, tea, coffee, lemonade, and juice at breakfast
  • Excursions and tips for guides/drivers
  • Tips for the porters who take you luggage at the port
  • Transportation to/from the port
  • Anything purchased from the shops on board

Does Carnival enforce staggered boarding? We are scheduled 12:30 to 1 but would like to board earlier, even though we will have a couple carryons with our canned drinks for the room. I am told we won't be able to get to the room before 1:30 but would like to get started vacationing and having lunch a little earlier than 1Pm/

Yes they do but that time is really just to start the process so may take you that long to just get all checked in and board. The lido deck will be filled with lots of people and tons of luggage that wasn't checked. That's something I wasn't prepared for my first cruise and got scared it was gonna be like that all cruise but after that the crowds don't seem that bad.
