Hello,

We need to get from London to Tillbury with luggage for embarkment, then vice versa without for a day trip, then from Tillbury to Heathrow. Does anyone have any suggestions for good ways to go? We're on Crystal in July and August. Thanks in advance!

I can't help with the transfers (but here are several car services mentioned in numerous threads in this board from whom you could get quotes) - have you checked to see what Crystal offer, as that may be an economic way to get across or round London to the airport.

On the day trip into London without luggage (are you on back-to-back or something?), I would suggest the best way is by train from Tilbury Town station - a short cab ride or 20 minute walk from the terminal (and I believe free shuttles run for the ferry next to the cruise terminal). About 40 minutes into Fenchurch Street station in London.

We travelled out of Tilbury several times years ago when there was a direct train literally to the ship - it used to stop metres from the ship itself and was extremely easy but it has changed in recent years which we discovered when again we travelled out of Tilbury a couple of years ago. (Options may have changed once again since then ) but we found it was a tricky departure point to access with luggage. There are plenty of trains to Tilbury Town station from Fenchurch Street Station in London - which is situated near the Tower of London which is a good area for sightseeing and staying) - and we took a terminal shuttle from just outside the station (across the road) to the port which was £1 per person. That was OK. We did a back to back with a call back into the port - we found we didn't have time to go back into Fenchurch St/London that day due to an early departure so decided to stay on the ship as there is very, very little to do in the area and Tilbury offers nothing to see unfortunately. Coming back, we waited for the train station shuttle to take us back to Tilbury Town station and found we had just missed one. So we waited and waited and eventually one came. (There were no taxis available that we could see.) So we repeated our journey in reverse and this time we found there was no lift at Tilbury Town and so had to carry luggage up a steep flight of stairs etc etc. ( I believe there is a lift now however.) Plenty of trains back to Fenchurch Street which saw us back on home territory but it was a bit of a hassle and if going out of Tilbury again, we would book a cer service or buy ship's transfers straight to the ship. We have completed 40 + cruises over the years and our last departure to /from Tilbury was the trickiest port to access we have encountered. Next time we will book a transfer (ship's own or private transfer) rather than go by train.

We are also looking for transfers from Central London to Tilbury for Crystal V6214. Are you on that voyage (I don't believe there is a roll call). We're not sure we want to wrestle with the luggage on the train. We've done it before, but are thinking that private transfers would be better. A lot of companies I've checked don't go to Tilbury. Will try Adelphi.
