Nanatravel Posted August 21, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 21, 2004 We went cave tubing with Reggie and about 20 other folks we met on-line for our Meet & Greet. He is very accommodating and will stop for lunch if there is enough time. He will not stop if it means you would get back to the pier late. He values his reputation as one of the first independent Cave Tube tour providers on Belize. He has been offering these tours now for about 7 years. His staff is usually family members or close friends. Bon Voyage
danfiveoh Posted August 23, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 23, 2004 We went with Reggie 2 years ago and he was great. You'll have a wonderful time!
Jojiboy Posted August 24, 2004 #6 Share Posted August 24, 2004 We went with Regtours last Wednesday and had a great time. There were only the four of us. Jahmai (sp?) was terrific. He took great care of us and also helped others who were with other tours. We highly recommend Regtours and should we find ourselves in Belize again someday you can bet we'll book with Regtours again!!!
mattyboy Posted August 24, 2004 #7 Share Posted August 24, 2004 How much did he charge? Can you describe in some detail your experience? Thanks in advance.
Jojiboy Posted August 25, 2004 #8 Share Posted August 25, 2004 How much did he charge? Can you describe in some detail your experience? Thanks in advance. Regtours charges $65 per person but they had an July/August special of $55 per person if paid in advance. Jahmai met us at the pier and because of Tropical Depression Earl it started to thunderstorm when we hopped in the Regtours van. Jahmai confirmed who we were and how much we were being charged. Keep in mind that if you use a credit card to pay for the tour, the charge slip they give you as a receipt will be in Belize currency. As soon as all that formal stuff is done, you start the trip to the river. Along the way, Jahmai explained what to expect when we arrive at the river and he talks about Belize, the culture, the people and the things we see during the trip. The trip is approximately 43 miles from the port, 37 miles on the western highway and 6 miles over a very bumpy road. About halfway through the drive the rain finally stopped. When we finally arrived at the park, we prepared by taking our outer clothing off so we were just in our bathing suits and we put on some mosquito repellent (which we probably didn’t really need but better same than sorry). Jahmai then gave us each an inner tube, flotation vest and a miner’s lamp. Then we started our approximately 30 minute trek through the rainforest. As we hiked, he pointed out some of the foliage, stopped to look at some fruit bats, and crossed the river once. About a third into the hike the skies literally opened up with heavy rain, thunder, and lightning. We thought it was actually fun walking through the rainforest during that heavy rain. A couple of things to note, make sure you wear decent footwear such as sport sandals and to watch your footing because some areas of the hike you will encounter slippery/rocky areas. The hike itself wasn't too strenous but if you spend most of your time as a couch potato, the hike might wear you out quickly. When we arrived in the area where we would enter the river, Jahmai asked us if we would like to take some pictures. We did and he offered to take some pictures of us at the mouth of the cave complex. He then instructed us on how to get in the river and mount our inner tubes. We started our journey through the caves and I have just one word to say about it, “Awesome”!!! Jahmai made sure to keep an eye on all of us and he helped a lot of others who were not on our tour. We really appreciated how well he took care of our boys during the whole tour. He seemed to know every nook and cranny of the cave system and told us, “Butts up”, when we encountered very shallow areas of the river. After the tour was finished, since we had time, he took us to a restaurant called Amigos where we had a traditional dish of Belize. It consisted of chicken, rice & beans, and coleslaw. It was one of the most delicious meals we’ve ever eaten. The cost of the meal was $6 which included a soft drink. When we finished eating, he drove us back to the port. Well, that’s about it. Suffice it to say, we were extremely happy with the tour and with Jahmai in particular. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending them to anyone. Let me know if you have any questions I can try to answer for you.
Biff And Buffy Posted August 25, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted August 25, 2004 Was it Difficult entering the river and getting into the tube?
Jojiboy Posted August 25, 2004 #10 Share Posted August 25, 2004 Was it Difficult entering the river and getting into the tube? No, not at all. Where you enter the river to get on your tube is very shallow.

VaCruzers Posted August 25, 2004 #12 Share Posted August 25, 2004 Just confirming that jojiboy's account is accurate. We have been with Reggie twice now - 11/03 & 6/04. Well, actually with Reggie once & once with his son, Jahmai. Both experiences were just as described. I can't imagine that anyone else could be a better tour guide. You won't regret a decision to go with Reggie's company. Have fun!
Mcat Posted August 27, 2004 #13 Share Posted August 27, 2004 We got back from our NCL Sea cruise on Aug. 8th. We did all of our shore excursions via the internet. Our favorite was cave tubing with Reggie. Reggie gave us specific instructions on how to meet up with him and he waited for us with his van. My family was the only three for this tour and it was great. We hiked through the jungle and tubed through the cool blue water in the caves. Beautiful. We even got to stop in an area where my son did some swinging on a vine into the water. We stoped for a wonderful "tico" lunch at the restaurant on the grounds. Our biggest problem was trying to catch a tender off the ship. The NCL group wouldn't let us off because we were not on their official tour so we did not have priority. We were almost an hour late. Don't set up a time that is too early! Just because the tenders start at a certain time doesn't mean you'll get off at that time. (Hey, we're new at this...) This excursion was well worth it. The cost was almost half of what NCL wanted and we got personal service. Not the 200 plus going down the river with us.
