Hopa on Hopa Off Bus Hilo & Kona

Has anyone done these buses? or their tours?

Took this bus for two days. Informative driver and gave us tips where to go/sightsee. Economical way to get around.

We used one in Aukland, New Zealand and it was great!! Got on and off when we wanted and stayed as long as we wanted. But haven't done one in Hawaii. Thinking it would work the same way. Have fun planning.

Did you do the one in Kona or Hilo? Is it long before the next bus comes. Are the stops good?

Kona. Buses were about half hour or so. Drivers are well informed and can give info on next approximate pick up time.

Anyone else do the tours or bus in Kona or Hilo?:)

Unless something has changed very recently, the only "Hop On/Hop Off" in Kona is a little trolley shuttle that makes a loop from the pier to a couple of shopping centers and hotel complexes, eventually down to the Sheraton hotel in Keauhou. It makes several stops at the Farmers Market, Kona Brew Pub, beaches along the Alii Drive, etc. Here's a link to the stops and timetable:

It's very cheap and a good way to get a feel for the area, but not very exciting. If you use it to go to the beaches, make sure to allow plenty of time to get back to the ship, as the late afternoon shuttles can be full. The shuttle also often runs on "island time", so be prepared to be flexible. Have a taxi phone number available as a back-up plan.
