pgmrdev Posted April 30, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 30, 2004 My least favorite port of any port I've visited. Relatively a new port of call, Princess has been visiting it for some time. Vendors travel some distance within Mexico as it is so remote. It was 2001 when we visited it. Maybe things have changed.

Grand Princess 2-2001 Grand Princess 12-2001 Carnival Paradise 3-2002 Carnival Destiny 10-2002 Golden Princess 10-2003 Carnival Legend 6-8-2004

Lola Jo Posted April 30, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 30, 2004 I was in Costa Maya with my 3 adult daughters last July and we loved it. Don't miss the free outdoor dancers. My daughters got massages on the beach, much cheaper than on the cruise ship. Umbrellas and chairs are free by the water, Relaxing day. Did some shopping and everything is right by the ship. Looking forward to going back. There is also a large swimming pool there. It is a pretty port.
HOSKI Posted April 30, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 30, 2004 Love this port and have done it twice. The ruins were great, I booked it right at the pier. Did the massage on the beach, went into town and had great drinks and nachos. Have not managed to catch a show but did like the pool and shopping. hstrybuf Posted April 30, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 30, 2004 We were there last September and really enjoyed our day. First we took a taxi into Mahahual. The driver dropped us off at a beach opposite a restaurant. We sat under a thatched hut with a table and chairs and dug our toes into the sand. A fellow from the restaurant brought us drinks and food, the breeze was blowing, roving musicians played and I had a massage on the beach while listening to the waves. It was not at all crowded and the water was warm. I have often described this as our own "Corona commercial moment". We also did some shopping there before returning to the tourist area. mininutrsp Posted May 1, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 1, 2004 My husband and I sailed on the Pride in September of 2002. We couldn't dock at Progresso because the hurricane had damaged the pier. Costa Maya was substituted. WE went to the ruins at Chacchobben (sp?). It was great. We had a great guide who gave us lots of info. iluvdoxies Posted May 1, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted May 1, 2004 Thanks so much! Now did you have to tender in or do you dock? Is the beach within walking distance or do you need to take a cab? Thanks again. A lot of NCL ships The old Emerald Seas Fantasy 10/01 Pride 01/02 Sensation 6/02 Fantasy 9/02 Legend 1/03. yst347 Posted May 1, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 1, 2004 The cruise ship docks two miles from majahual. If you are an avid walker like I am it is a pleasant stroll. You can also take a cab. You can also stay at the pier. The cruiselines have developed their own beach with all the usual facilities. Dzamma Posted May 2, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 2, 2004 We also did the Chaccoben Ruins. We loved them. Our guide helped with the excavations, so we got a lot of good info. We rode in an air conditioned charter bus for an hour to get there. We would loved to go back to Cosa Maya. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
