Istanbul mosque dress code

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know the dress code to go into the mosques in Istanbul? I know I have to cover my head, and trousers or a skirt below the knees. I am not sure if I have to cover all of my arms, or just above the elbow. Thanks

It's been awhile for me but I wore slacks, a top that had short sleeves to the elbows and carried a scarf in my day bag just in case. Istanbul is not as strict as some of the cities you would go to further inland but, like any religious building, it's always good to be respectful. Try checking out Journeywoman.com for more current info.

Istanbul is amazing.. enjoy. Shar

Whatever you wear; the mosques provide scarves & covers & skirts for you to wear so if you have not got the appropriate clothing then don't worry.

It had been August the times we have been there so too hot to wander around the city in anything more than a cool dress which is what my daughter & I wore both times. We were given scarves to wear over our heads & skirts to wear over our dresses.
