Isla Verde Beach Vendors

We are visiting San Juan for one day on a Disney cruise. I have tried to find a hotel that will sell a "day use" room or access to their facilities for one day. I am having no success. Either they have sold out that category or they don't offer that kind of arrangement.

Instead we are looking at going to the beach at Isla Verde near the San Juan Water & Beach Club. Are there beach vendors there that will rent chairs and umbrellas or is everything controlled by the hotels? Are there public restroom facilities or do I have to sneak into one of the hotel lobbies?

I am pretty sure that there are no Isla Verde hotels that offer a day room or day pass. I spent a week there in January in a condo. On our last day, we had a late flight and early check out time. I was looking for this option. The large resorts in Isla Verde (intercontinental and El San Juan) have wrist bands for their patrons. There are attendants all around the pool area monitoring the situation. We ended up getting brunch at El San Juan and waiting around in their lobby.

In the past, I have had day passes at the Caribe Hilton and the Marriott Stellaris. I have also gotten a day room at the Marriott for $150. You have to call the desired property the day of your arrival to inquire about day pass availability. If you have enough people, it may be more economical to get a day room if it is available. If you are there on a Monday through a Thursday, you will likely have a better chance of finding available day passes or rooms. Weekends are very busy with cruise ship passengers coming and going.

The beach at Caribe Hilton is a protected cove area and good for kids. Their pool area is pretty nice too. The beach at the Marriott is very rough and not suitable for small children to swim in. However, the pool is wonderful. Isla Verde has a great beach ( the best IMO) that is not too rough.

The San Juan Water and Beach Club is on a street called Calle Tartak. The street goes from the main drag towards the beach for about a block, then turns sharply to the left and runs along the beach. Right at this corner, there are at least 2 bar/restaurants that directly face the beach. There is a vendor near that corner renting chairs and umbrellas to the general public. If you go down the street for about 1/2 block more, it dead-ends at Water and beach club. This area is a good option if you are set on Isla Verde. We ate twice at one of the above mentioned restaurants called El Alambique that was excellent. If you buy drinks at one of these bars, I am sure that you would have access to the restrooms.

I hope this information helps. I would probably opt for the Isla Verde beach option. Day passes can get pricey for a family. I would only go for that option if you must have a pool.

Check directly with Disney. They have a program with an Isla Verde resort for a day pass where they will shuttle you to and from the resort. This a Disney-only program right now, so I don't really know if the resort has general day passes available. I will find out and follow up.

I have talked with Disney but they could not tell me which resort their deal is with. Do you know which resort Disney uses?

Yes, I do as a matter of fact because I work there but as per site guidelines I can't go into specifics. But trust me, it's in the best strip of beach in Isla Verde and it's a bit further down from the other hotels ;). You will not be dissapointed. BTW this same resort offers a Day Pass for $99+tax and includes a room and full access to all resort facilities from 9am-5pm for up to 4 persons. BUT..... You need to call the same day, to check availability and cannot be booked in advance. I'm really sorry that I can't go into more specifics.

Hopefully it is ok to post this link. There is only one offering for San Juan, but I can attest that it is a beautiful place. We stayed there pre cruise. We DID NOT get in the water and swim though. It has a nice beach, very nice pool, and a casino.

The Marriott is on Condado Beach and the OP had specified Isla Verde, which is the next beach down as you travel away from San Juan.

Last December I went on a Carnival excursion to Isla Verde and the SJ Water Club. The lounges were free and an umbrella was maybe $10. Access to the building was limited to the bathrooms and the rooftop, which had nice views. I don't know how many days of the week Carnival uses this area. When they do access is for their pax only.
