Kahului, Maui airport overnight parking + Taxi

I was wondering who has rented a car overnight, parked it at the airport overnight and had a taxi pick them up at the pier 3:30 AM to go back to the airport parking lot? How did this all work out? What time did you have the taxi pick you up at pier to make it for the Haleakala sunrise?

I am looking into picking up the rental car at 5:30PM on a Sunday. I don't know if I will be able to take a car rental shuttle back to the pier after we drop the car off at the airport parking or we will have a taxi take us back.

We rented a car while on Maui st the time we were on the cruise and parked the car right in the port area. It was safe and very convenient. Keep in mind this was in 2005 too.
