Four of us on the Splendor in April. Have spent the last hour reading CURRENT reviews of this ship and I honestly think I have made a HUGE mistake...almost NOTHING positive going on....I have done 9 Carnival cruises ....love Carnival....I know what everyone is thinking..."have an open mind...you make your own fun"....YES I WILL AND YES I DO...BUT, sounds like the food has gone down hill big time....cabins not cleaned well....etc. HELP!

We love the Splendor and I must say if you like to relax when you get on the ship RUN I mean RUN to the spa and book the spa for the week. The thalasso pool (huge hot tub with minerals)and steam rooms are wonderful and usually empty. The pass gives you unlimited access. We have a hard time cruising a ship without cloud nine spas.heres a little tour I saw on youtube. In case you interested the cost varies from ship to ship for some reason but I think we usually pay around $169 each for the week and use it twice a day !! Then after we sit in the quiet room and have a tea

I'm a first time cruiser sailing on Splendor April 2nd. One thing I don't get is the need for twice a day room service. Is that really necessary? Maybe I'm missing something.

It really depends on one's habit. Some wants to have a bath before dressing up for breakfast and before dinner. Or hangs out/take a nap in the cabin after lunch. Doing these, others feel the need to make the most out of being pampered by having the bathroom cleaned and bed made up when returning after their outside activities.

  • 2 weeks later...
We just returned from a week on the Splendor on Sunday and it had its ups and downs. The service was really just so-so. I haven't decided if I am going to do a review yet, I have lots of pics to look through but I may. Our room Steward Eve was good, but we had once a day cleaning and had to ask for beach towels after not having them 2 days. The food was good, and we didn't really have any bad meals but the service lacked. There were 3 tables of 2 together and you are so close it's really like there are 6 of you at the table, which was fine we enjoyed our table mates. However we were constantly having to ask twice for things, and were never greeted. In 5 cruises it was the first time that I was really disappointed in the service. We always try to look on the good side of things, because at least we aren't cooking and washing the dishes, but this time it was a little more difficult. Maybe we have just been spoiled by always having awesome experiences.

On a positive note the CD Marq is awesome. He was my favorite that I have had in 5 cruises. He is a ball of energy and is

always around. He is hilarious and not afraid to put himself out there. I highly recommend spending time around him. He was one of the highlights of the cruise.

:(I would agree with your review ~ We have sailed with Carnival 10+ times, we skipped last year ~ and in that year the Carnival Company cut staff and cut food quality BIG TIME, the quality and choice has really taken a hit. I am saddened that they have diminshed their brand in such a way. The staff we encountered were working their tails off ~ no time for the jovial hellos or the gracious smiles. Floors in the Lido were slippery and scummy, ~ we witnessed four falls by staff and guests due to the slippery floors. Tables at aft Tandoor were so scummy and tacky we spread our napkins out as tablecloths so our hands wouldn't stick to the table. That being said, we were out of the snow and freezing rain and were waited on to the best of the staffs' ability and were grateful for that.~ (we had Eve as our cabin Steward as well ~ she and her team did the best she could.) We did a BxB and will probably skip Carnival next year and try another cruise line.

Glad to see some better reviews of the Splendor. We sail her in late May and I too was wondering if I'd made a good choice. Getting in 3 new port stops was the big attraction for us. We figured one Carnival ship was pretty much like another. Neither of us eat much so food is not an attraction. As long as my wife can get Warm Chocolate Melting cake a couple times she is happy.

On sea days we just grab a spot in the sun, read, drink and people watch. Our last 3 cruises have been on the Freedom and they set the bar pretty high. I'm sure this will be just as nice.

We were on the Splendor in late Feb when we had engine trouble and had to cancel 2 ports. Things like that happen and we still had a good time. I have cruised with Carnival several times and did notice some changes such as longer wait times for dinner in the MDR, every morning on Lido there was at least one coffee pot out of service and twice had to hunt for cups more than once...a few other noticable items that really needed to be cleaned..........with that being said, it was still a pleasant vacation, ...

We did Splendor in December and will have several family members join us in June for graduation and anniversary celebrations again on Splendor. We had a great time in December and are excited for the June sailing. No issues with service, condition, etc. Now Splendor is not a new ship like Vista, but we knew that going in. As others have said, CC is notorious for the NEGATIVE comments. Most who have a good time don't return to the site and provide the positive input you are looking for to balance the scales.

I sailed on the splendor in 2014. We had no problems everything was clean. Guest relations were great answer are questions and very helpful. The staff were great from cleaning the room to the waiters.

Actually I will be on this ship in May again so we already know the layout

Which is good. I like the pink. Have fun on your cruise .

I did a 6 day cruise on Splendor last September, and I did encounter a couple of issues, but I did enjoy my cruise, and certainly enjoyed the ship. It was as clean and well maintained as any Carnival ship I have been on, and the crew were top notch, friendly and hard working. My issues were with worn vs very hard mattress on the beds in my room, as well as poorly functioning internet. Also, the casino, which is a place that I tend to enjoy very much on a cruise, was barely tolerable to me this time due to cigarette smoke. I literally could not breathe in there in the evening, so was restricted to a few hours there in the morning when not very crowded.

Probably was a good thing, because I brought home most of my gambling budget, plus a couple of small slot machine wins lol. But I did love the ship, especially the tandoor, and the rotisserie (which I read has now been replaced, oh well). These things may not bother some one else though. In general, nice ship, and the usual warm and friendly staff were my experience.
