Coffee card on Allure

Recommended Posts

I hear the coffee on the Allure is really not great. Has anyone bought the coffee card. If yes, was it worth it? And are there enough coffee bars so you aren't standing on line forever to get a coffee? Thanks

Should have mentioned that on the Princess line the coffee card is great, very good value. RCCL seems to be in the business of finding additional ways to make money. So glad we've had this stock for many years. To bad for people like us who love to cruise. Prefer the "good old days" where we paid up front and were done with the money except for the the casino, and tipping, which is always a pleasure to do.

So, buying a coffee card on one cruise line is fine but to buy one on Royal Caribbean is a money grab? That makes no sense at all.

Princess has that gross syrup coffee, so people buy their coffee card to get brewed coffee, in addition to espresso based coffees. Royal Caribbean's coffee card is for espresso based coffees, not brewed coffee. Brewed coffee is already available free of any additional charge.

My cruise planner has $31 for 15 coffees.

That's significantly less expensive than the price onboard.

One caveat for the OP, some ships are reportedly charging two punches for the largest size. Something you may want to confirm onboard before you buy.

Thanks all for,you comments. Will do the coffee card as seems to make sense based on Bob's calculations. As for Princess having gross syrup coffee, that is something new to me. Then again, after well over 30 cruises, took a break from cruising and coming back after a long break have found things really have changed in seven years. But wanted to take my kids and grandkids on the first line I ever cruised on: RCCL.

Happy cruising all,

I did the drink package. Allcoffee specialty and liquor coffees included. Well worth it in my opinion. Coffee was good and can get at any restaurant while dining or cafe promenade or park cafe.

I thought Royal Caribbean had the coffee syrup too. I might be wrong. I hope I'm wrong. Will be in the Radiance of the Seas in 5 days. I will ask!

The coffee on Royal is brewed...much better than the syrup coffee on Princess. One of the appeals of the coffee card on Princess is that it includes unlimited brewed coffee.

I have bought the coffee card on Princess and on RCL (Anthem). I agree it is a MUCH better deal on Princess as whatever you get is 1 punch. On Anthem, they did say that larger sizes and iced coffee are 2 punches. They said it was based on the number of shots of espresso. Since I like a mocha in the morning, but don't necessarily need extra shots of espresso in my mocha, I was able to get the larger size with only 1 shot for just 1 punch. My sister (we shared the coffee card as it was a short cruise and I knew neither of us would use all the punches alone) got a iced coffee most days so it was 2 punches. If they were doing a pour over, she would have tried to do what I did and just get 1 shot, but they pre-make their iced coffee so no go there. She did say she understood a little of their reasoning (she is a Starbucks manager, so I usually take her word at these things as she knows how the drinks are made and how they should be made :') ) I do have to say it's not as good of a deal if you are only getting 7ish drinks for your $31 than if you are getting 15 drinks. The drinks were expensive so if you are going to buy them anyway, still a little savings. I'm not sure I would buy the coffee card again. We have another cruise in November and I'm still debating on that one.

  • 2 weeks later...

We just got off the Radiance of the Seas this morning. We were able to purchase a coffee card on board. It's for espresso type drinks. The regular included coffee is BREWED, not from syrup, but the consistency is off, depending on who brews it. Sometimes it's too strong.

The coffee card is one punch per drink, not one punch per shot.

Yes, that's what it's SUPPOSED to be and the way it's sold ("15 coffees"). But there have been many people who have said that on THEIR ship they were being charged per shot, not per coffee. Someone posted a photo of the sign her ship put up stipulating one punch per shot, which is definitely not what it says in the cruise planner.

I took the card out of my cart and will wait 'til I get on board to see how they do it on Explorer. With tax it comes to just over $36, which for 15 coffees is a deal (or, as it says in the cruise planner, "save up to 50%"), but getting 7 for $36 is more than the cost of the drinks individually.

Do a search, there are several threads about this issue.

My wife and I both love coffee. We thought the card was great. In regard to the regular coffee which was being served, that was very good as well.

If you are an early riser, every morning they set up a coffee station outside the Windjammer. I can not remember if it was 6 or 7 am. Anyway, I would get up and walk over there with my coffee carrier (picked it up at Starbucks) and bring back 4 cups to the room. It is Seattle's Best coffee and very good.

we did the non alcoholic drink package, on sale for $18/day. between bottled water and coffee it was worth it for us....I think lattes were $4.50 each.....I was 1 latte in the early am, 1 iced late morning, and someimtes a cappucinno at dinner. the brewed coffee was not good. other option is to bring a starbucks card loaded with money and get your coffees there. IMO nothing on Allure was ever too packed or crowded, never waited too long for drinks. NOTE:if you have a package and want 2 lattes, they want you to swipe 2 cards, so a few times I forgot DH's card and almost had a problem.
