Yes both Savor and Taste were open when we boarded on 15th October. They were also open early, I am sure we went around 12:15 and we were one of the first in and got a large table beside a window, but even when we left it was not busy.

Even though the menu in the MDR is limited for lunch on embarkation day, it is so much better than dragging your carry-ons to the buffet, trying to find vacant seats, and serving yourself.

In the MDR, you are seated, waited on, and served. A MUCH better way to start your cruise vacation. Just saying.

On our May cruise there was a wait for one of them, but the other had a few tables left. By the time we left, there were waits at both. It was our first and last time eating an MDR on embarkation day. Took forever!

Chicken Nachos were amazing

MDR lunch is one of the things I love on Embarkation day - to my knowledge only NCL and Princess offer this to all guests. Holland America only offers it to past guests, and Royal, Celebrity and Carnival don't offer it at all.

I'm not a huge fan of buffets (Though I think NCL does a pretty good job with theirs) so any chance to avoid the boarding buffet bozo bananza is a good thing in my book :D

Yes they are, and the tomato soup they offer is really delish as well - luckily I can enjoy both in just a few days when I board the Epic :D

How late in the afternoon are the lunch eating places open? On the Getaway, O'Sheeans closed at 2 and remained closed until 4:30.

Yes, it closed for the muster drill. Otherwise O'Sheehan's is open 24 hours.
