satxdiver Posted December 22, 2014 #27 Share Posted December 22, 2014 Going over to Playa del Carmen was mentioned. It is a 40 minute ferry ride each way and last time I did it it was $24 r/t each. It leaves from near the plaza requiring a $8 taxi ride. Taxi fees are per taxi and not per person. There are nice beaches available just to the north of the ferry port and withing easy walking distance. They have closed calle cinco (5th street) and made it into a 10+ block mall that does not have a diamonds international on every block. There are many restaurants, shops etc on the street and more true Mexican. I do enjoy going over there and getting away from the hordes off the cruise ships. There can be 10,000 - 28,000 pax in port at the same time during the winter season from 4 to 8 ships! The ride over can be rough and you do have to keep in mind the ferry schedule and taxi ride back to the ship but well worth it.
Mary Ann 2 Posted December 23, 2014 #28 Share Posted December 23, 2014 Nacci Cocom is the best all inclusive in Cozumel, that is in my opinion. May be too calm for you, but take a look at it on trip advisor. It is truly a slice of heaven. Going back, for the second time this year Christmas eve, can't wait. We did this on our Thanksgiving cruise last year and loved it! Top shelf drinks and attentive service!
tallygram Posted December 24, 2014 #29 Share Posted December 24, 2014 We just returned home from the Caribbean Princess and enjoyed the best excursion we've ever taken. In Cozumel we went to Rio Secreto which is an underground river running through a cave. This was just discovered in 2007 and only 25 miles have been explored. The tour takes you through about 2 miles of beauty. You will be outfitted with a wetsuit, life jacket, water shoes, and hard hat with a light attached. You enter the cave after walking through a jungle area and before you know it the entrance is at hand. Each guide takes only 10 people who follow in single file. You will walk through water that goes from knee deep to chest deep to deep enough to require swimming. We were in the cave for 2 hours with an extremely knowledgeable guide who taught us more than you can imagine. If you want to get a glimpse of this cave, just Google , Rio Secreto. The walking is up, down, around, between, and over rocks so not an easy stroll but definitely worth every second of your time. Hope this helps you in your search for an excursion.
