welshsaxon Posted October 19, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 19, 2014 Hi Guys, Me & the wife have previously cruised with Cunard and P&O, but this time we are taking our two boys who are 9 & 13. According to the schedule we have 3 Casual & 1 Formal night, but having read various reports what should we pack for dinner for us & the boys... I know what to pack for Cunard and P&O, but could do with advice on this one for us and the kids...
cb at sea Posted October 19, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 19, 2014 (edited) Generally, for "casual" nights, you'll want long pants and collared shirt for boys/men. Women have more selections...from slacks to sundresses...capris, skirt, etc.... Formal means tux/suit- cocktail dress/gown, but on Rci, that's rarely the majority. Nice slacks and shirt with tie is usually fine! If you are not in "formalwear" you won't be turned away. The "dress code" is only for the MDR, anyway....there are other options if you prefer! JanineM Posted October 19, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 19, 2014 (edited) You should check the dress recommendations on Royal Caribbean's website. Unless things have changed since our last cruise with them, you and the boys will need long pants (not jeans) a collared shirt and a jacket on formal night. You won't need a tux, but if you have one you will look wonderful :) Casual night most men wear jeans or dockers with a polo/golf type shirt. ducklite Posted October 20, 2014 #6 Share Posted October 20, 2014 Euro cruises tend to be a little more formal, so I would plan on at least trousers and collared shirts on casual nights, adding a jacket and perhaps even a tie on the formal night. Book bug Posted November 2, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 2, 2014 We have cruised with both P&O and RCL and would say dress code is the same. We have always experienced the majority (there are always a few that like to think the dress code excludes them!) dress for the formal nights men suit or tux and ladies cocktail/long dress and that's on the Europe and med cruises. I wonder whether that wish to be 'very formal' applies more to British passengers? I have seen one lady from the UK wear three different elegant cocktail dresses on the three nights of a Yangtze river cruise. Nobody else wore anything like that. She was looking good! :)
