Beverages of any kind are not allowed

From MSC USA FAQ

https://www.msccruisesusa.com/us_en/an-msc-cruise/Faq.aspx

As a safety precaution, security staff may search a passenger and/or his/her luggage and confiscate any articles that the Company considers could risk the safety of the passengers, crew or ship. On board, staff reserve the right to remove any beverages present in passenger baggage. These will be returned the evening before disembarkation.* Passengers are not permitted to bring unpackaged food on board.

No raking is permitted anywhere on the ship including your cabin. Rakes will be confiscated and returned upon disembarkation.

I suggest you go on specialist raking holiday instead.

I even get a comedy act on this thread. Thank you

Just returned from a med cruise with MSC we had no problem bringing water beer wine on board. I'm sure this is not the norm maybe they were just under staffed. However at one port we asked the security staff before leaving the ship if we could just nip of to buy wine in the duty free shop and bring it back on board we were told no problem

A policy I really hope gets changed soon by MSC. Pretty much all cruise lines have gotten into the habit of letting people bring on their favorite water, soda and wine onboard.

It does seems that even though it says not allowed, soda and especially water won't be a problem when getting on the ship . . . however the wine could be.

The RCCL forum has a similar thread going on and it seems like it is more at the discretion of people working in security or check-in to let passengers board with water/sodas than the enforcement of the policy by employees once on the ship.... It also appears that the "discretion" of people in authority vary from port to to port.

Could it be the same for employees of SMC? Can they exercise discretion when we embark on the ship?

I don't know... Anyway! How much water/sodas can you carry in your bag anyway? I too am looking forward to the day they lift that policy but until then, I will comply

I suppose it's possible one or two allow it. I've never, ever been on a cruise where we were allowed to bring our own water on board.

Ever.

Not ever.

Not once.

Does anyone else notice when someone doesn't like something MSC does their first instinct is to come to Cruise Critic and say that all the other cruise lines do what it is they're mad at MSC for not doing?

Carnival and Princess allow 1 bottle of wine per adult.

We had no issue bringing water on board Carnival.

It was either my MSC or Carnival cruise someone brought on a 24 pack of water and just put a baggage tag on the case.It was delivered to their room with the rest of their luggage.

So yes, other cruiselines do allow passengers to carry on wine/ water.

We have sailed 17 cruises on Princess & bring a case of water, no problem, Carnival states you can bring 22 bottles & yes we have. Its not a money problem but I need to have salt free for medical reasons.

When is the last time you cruised? Within the last 2 years, all the major cruiselines have started to allow water/soda/2 bottles a wine per cabin. Carnival, Princess, Disney, NCL, RCCL, Celebrity, etc.

I don't think anybody has claimed to be mad at MSC for anything, but there is nothing wrong with them getting with the times and allowing soda/water and/or wine on board like all the other major cruiselines.

If they don't, why shouldn't people throw it out as a negative for other cruisers to be aware of?

MSC USA, Divina out of Miami, has the most affordable wine and beer coupons of any line. No need to smuggle. But if you must, just wait until your first port of call.

This is not smuggling. The cruise lines listed above are allowingto bring some drinks on board. What is your problem?

No problem with me. The question was about MSC, not other lines.

The comparison started when another cruiser posted this nonsense:

I've never, ever been on a cruise where we were allowed to bring our own water on board.

Ever.

Not ever.

Not once.

So,some of us responded to it...and you talk about "smuggling" which is incorrect.

I have been on over 30 cruises on several different cruise lines (6 I think) and have always packed my own water and soda in my luggage and never had a problem. I am not talking an excessive amount but a few bottles of water and usually maybe 10 sodas. We usually always start running out toward the end and will buy a liter or 2 of water in port and a few extra soda and bring them right thru security. We dont flaunt them but dont really hide them either. I do always see them taking wine and liquor from people if they go ashore.

I have on occasion bought little airplane size bottles of liquor for my collection and I told them about them as I was boarding and they said no problem but it was like 2 or 3 at most.

Some ships allow one bottle of wine per person over 21 but from what I have read not MSC.

Hope this helps!

  • 1 month later...

I am fine with not being able to bring any drinks on boards. Those are the rules - that's fine (though I am spoiled by Disney's policy!)

I like to occasionally have a glass or two of wine in my room/on my balcony at night - especially if the little one is sleeping. Is there a way to order a bottle of wine to bring into your room for personal consumption? Or will I need to be ordering a glass at the bar, drinking it, then going for another (or ordering 2 to bring back to my room for the night) I would really prefer NOT to traipse back to my room attempting not to spill my wine glasses ... Plus it is just nice to have a bottle in my room just in case I want it.

Nonsense. We've seen people bring a case of water with a luggage tag attached. As recently as a few months ago on NCL. And at nearly every port, the crew got off to buy bottled water by the six and twelve packs.
