Mayapan Mayan Ruins

Has anyone ever taken a taxi to the Mayapan Mayan Ruins outside of Progresso? I've seen it on other websites and it always says take a taxi or rent a car and drive. Trip Advisor has great reviews of the site and it seems to be small enough for the kids (8 & 10) to not get bored while satisfying the adults.

Take a tour that combines the ruins with the nearby cenote. Taxi is not recommended.

Are you thinking of the ruins at Dzibilchaltun? They are about 10 miles south of Progreso. The ruins at Mayapan are south of Merida about two hours away. While the Mayapan ruins are extraordinary you would have to arrange for a custom tour to see them. You can take an excursion from the cruise ship, take a taxi or arrange for a custom tour.
