My first RCCL cruise - Vision of the Seas review - 10/18/14 sailing

Recommended Posts

This was our first RCCL cruise and here are some of my thoughts. I always look on here for reviews so I would like to submit my own review based on our 5 day cruise on the Vision of the Seas we just took on 10/18/14 – 10/23/14.

Embarkation

This was smooth and easy. We got there around 1130am and was on the boat in no time. Only problem, not a RCCL issue, was the parking at the garage. The lines were long and slow. They told me they never have 3 boats there and weren’t prepared. This made no sense to me. They had the garage limited to one lane and people coming from both sides. Quite a mess, but like I said, not RCCL’s fault.

Boat

We went on two mega ships for Norwegian. This boat obviously was smaller in comparison. The boat was in great shape. Everything inside looked new and clean. Carpets, furniture, decks, etc.

- Centrum was great. What a great central location for everything

- Solarium was great too. What a nice quiet place and the pool was big.

- Park Café was nice place to get food. Looked fresh and everything was hot.

- Aquarius was a nice MDR. Our server Vijeet was fantastic.

- Giovanni’s Table was very nice. Way too much food was brought out. They don’t care so order a little of everything. Was nice.

- Masquerade Theater was nice. We loved the love seats.

- We had no issues getting drinks anywhere

- Shops and pictures were good.

- Windjammer was ok. Not that many seats in there.

- Some enchanted Evening was a nice place to watch a show or play Bingo

Food

I have to say, I thought the food was ok (On a scale of 1-10 I think it was like a 6). Nothing great. At our table, we had a cook who said the food was terrible. I have to say the buffet was terrible. Not my cup of tea. Just bland food. MDR and Giovanni’s saved it for me.

Cabin

We had a ‘large’ inside cabin (4311). I have to say it wasn’t as small as I thought. It was fine and for the price it looked better.

- The shower was super small. The shower curtain drove me nuts

- The bathroom sink was terrible. Pressure was horrendous. Drove me nuts.

- Bed was ok

- Lighting and A/C were great.

- Space was nice

Shows

- The production shows were fine, a little boring

- Scott Record was a riot

- Love and Marriage was funny

- Rick something (other comedian) was terrible

Cruise Director/Activities Manager

Paul at first bothered me, but he was funny. It was an older crowd and I think he handles those well.

Moe was the activity manager. He was funny, but sometimes hard to understand.

Summary

This was my first RCCL cruise and being a Norwegian fan, I was pleasantly surprised. I am not really 100% into either one. I just go where the best deals are. I really want to go on the Allure of the Seas so hopefully in the near future I am able to go on it. Until the next one.

I was on the same cruise Vision Oct 18 sailing. I agree with most of what was said except for a few things. I thought the food in the dining room was quite good. We ate there every night. My bathroom sink looked like the bathroom had been remodeled and was very nice and the bed very comfortable....deck 7 balcony cabin. I enjoyed the production shows but then again I like that kind of thing and the show with Scott Record was outstanding.

I never had trouble getting a seat in the Windjammer or getting drinks and overall found this to be a pleasant cruise.

Thanks for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed the ship. We will be on her next year. We have always cruised on larger ships and are looking forward to a small ship experience.

Did you go ashore? You didn't say anything about your ports of call.

Hi,

thank you for your observations / review.

I keep reading all the reviews / threads about Vision because we also will be on that ship soon.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I liked the dining room food, but then we're vegetarian AND we (and the next table over, also with vegetarian guests) asked for vegetarian Indian food after the first night along with whatever we ordered from the menu, and the combo made us all very very happy.

I didn't like what happened when the weather got bad, though. The centrum became impossible for my lungs because no one was smoking outdoors and the casino's air was spilling out of the doors. It was awful for me. And since we were in a panoramic OV stateroom, the casino air started filtering up there, too. Thankfully it never really got into the room, but even in the hallway outside our room it was a bit hard for my lungs to deal with. :(

Until the weather got bad we were enjoying it. Could go to the deck below the casino and hang out in the centrum and it wasn't bad. (but that second at sea day even that haven was impossible for me)

Thanks for your review. I'm trying to read everything I can about Vision. We're on her in next May, & even if I read the worst things possible, we would still make the most out of it and enjoy it as best we could. Here's hoping for great weather, or I might have to take up smoking! Ha ha!

Where was your cruise from and to?

& was there ample Key Lime pie?! Even if there wasn't, please say there was! Ha ha!!! I only got one slice of it on my last cruise and it was the best damn slice I've ever had. We don't get it in Australia... I might need to learn how to make it!
