Review of 9-Night Liberty of the Seas Out of Bayonne 6/4 – 6/13/2015

Recommended Posts

Liberty has no Solarium cover. It's permanently open.

Really?? Even for New England Canada cruises? I'm going in Oct. so I'm counting on it being pretty cool up there. I will be extremely disappointed if it's open for our cruise. The term Solarium implies that it is a covered area.

I loved the Solarium on Radiance on our Alaska cruise.

I plenty of pictures of the Liberty and 2 of the solarium on my review below.

The pool and some of the sunning chairs in the solarium is uncovered and open to the sun.

Thank you Fizzlewicket...I loved your review and pictures! Now at the risk of sounding like a very annoying person I have to say that if the Solarium is open, then by definition it is not a "Solarium", which is a glass enclosed room, porch or the like that is exposed to the suns rays.

I'm disappointed...I thought it was like the Solarium on Radiance of the Seas, it's retractable and open in warm climates and closed like it was for us Alaska. It truly is a solarium when it is closed and was so nice and warm...a great place to hang out.

How did your sons enjoy catacombs and just night life in general? I am in 19, going on this cruise next week. Got to get away from the parents a little!

I don't believe they spent any time there. I think they wandered and spent time in the casino, especially my older son.

One thing I like to take for a night light are those little battery votive candles. I usually take 2, they work really well in the bathroom! And easy to pack. :)

That is a great idea too. Always something to learn on this site!

Thanks.

Where's the best place to be when ship leaves dock in NY? Can we go to the heliport area?

Yes, the helipad is usually open. However, you may want to go up to outside area of deck 12 to be closer to the bridge when you go under.

Not really. You can see a glimpse of it in the distance, but can't compare with a harbor cruise. And I think the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island tours are both really worth while. You could spend a day just at Ellis Island.

Yes Really. This is blown up quite a bit, but you can see it.

We obviously have different opinions on what it means to "see" something. This far-away shot falls into the glimpse category in my world. I don't find it to be "very visible," as the poster asked. And certainly not a substitute for a visit.

As the ship nears the Verazano-Narrows Bridge try to be on deck 12. In fact near the front of the ship you can go up to the "St Tropez Sun Deck" (it's for Gold Card holders but on day 1 nobody was checking). You will get quite a view!

Poster asked if the could see it, not visit it

Great review. We're on Liberty on her first cruise out of Galveston in Nov.

I always bring 2 LED candles, one tealight size for bathroom & one midsize for the balcony (adds to the ambiance of the water).

I tell the room steward on the last night that they're his/hers if they'd like them (as I hand an envelope as well). I'm not going to schlep them home & there's hundreds of hours left on them.

Does the TV's in the rooms have the channel webcam so you can see the Promenade and the front of the ship

I do remember the channel that shows the front of the ship, but not the Promenade.

Excellent review, Judy. I just got off Liberty this weekend from the nine night cruise. Interesting, many people were complaining (our cruise had 4500 passengers, more than it usually handles) and they didn't understand why service may have been slower or the food wasn't up to par. I can't complain about the food or the service except that the bartender didn't check on us after the first drink to see if we wanted anymore, once we spoke to the head waiter, that problem was remedied. I loved Explorer two years ago, and I loved Liberty as well. The cruise industry has changed in the last two years and the diamond members seem to be the most disappointed on our cruise. It won't stop me from going on RCCL again. I heard that My time dining is going 'bye bye'
