Will be going to Cozumel mid-September with our two-year-old (27 mo) we been looking at Playa Mia but wondering others thoughts on it who have been there. I saw on the website thAt the day passes were from ages 4+, does that mean he's free? Is there an age or height requirement for the slides? Water activities? Also is the buffet worth purchasing, not for him but for my husband and I? Should I look at the packages that are offered with transportation or just grab a can at the pier?

We're also looking at Paradise Beach and Mr. Sanchos. But up for other ideas as well.

Taxi for up to 4 passengers to Playa Mia will run about $17 each way; the included transportation may not require a child seat - a taxi will require that you bring your own.

If you do not plan to eat/drink lots then a pay-as-you-go beach club like Paradise Beach might be better - $3 admission/chair rental per adult, great facilities and a HUGE pool. Taxi fare to PB should be the same -- $17 each way.

Playa Mia is perfect for small kids. The waterpark is very toddler friendly. That would be a great choice.

Another place to look at is Nachi Cocom. Very quiet and relaxing AI resort. $55 AI for the adults. Very calm place for a small child to enjoy the sand and there is also a pool. We took our 3 year old daughter and 20 month old son there last year. Going again this year.

With a child that young, Playa Mia is a great choice due to the water park they have there for little ones. As far as the water slides, they are for bigger kids and adults. Nothing that a young child could go down (they have to go alone). But the small water park has small slides for the little one.

Yes, if day passes are for 4 and up, then under that is free.

I have a full review of the day we were there in my signature line. There's TONS of pictures of the entire place that might help you put a visual to the place. :)

  • 3 weeks later...

I would also echo that Playa Mia is a great option for a child that age. We were there a couple of weeks ago with my daughter who is 2 1/2. She absolutely loved the waterpark. It's a very sizable area for multiple children. They have many kid-sized slides to choose from. I think mistugurly has some great pictures as they helped me decide on this location.

We booked through Playa Mia and paid for the buffet and drink package with transportation. I felt we got there in a timely matter as we didn't wait long at all to depart from the port. When we got there, the guy told us as we had a small child, we could leave whenever we wanted and didn't have to wait as they usually leave on the hour each hour. Not sure how true this was as we ended up leaving on the hour. :)

The buffet had a pretty good selection and my wife, daughter and some friends found a good variety of food to eat. I ended up getting something off the menu. Bartenders and service team were very quick and hospitable.

Additionally, this place was very well maintained and clean. Plus, they offer some non-motorized activities for free. The things that are not included though are lockers and beach umbrellas but I felt they were reasonably priced.

Overall, with a child at that age, my wife and I were VERY satisfied with Playa Mia.

Thank you so much for the detailed experience. We are pretty. I have leaning toward this place as it sounds perfect for all of us to enjoy. Originally we were looking at taking a taxi but I've heard more people talk about taking their provided transportation, and I think we probably will do that now, especially since we won't be bringing a car seat with us and not sure how that works with taxis. We will probably skip the beverage package (as we got a premium package on the ship) but wondering about the buffet, my little one won't eat much at all, he's a bird and eats next to nothing, I don't want to purchase a meal package for him, do they have something for kids instead?

Was it worth purchasing thru them before hand or on the ship?

Although we booked through them for transportation, I think they contract with some of the local taxi services. They told us to wait and the rep went over to talk to a group of guys and then a van came over. No one mentioned anything about a car seat and we hopped in and headed on our way.

How old is your child. Might not have to pay for them anyway. We didn't pay for my daughter. She is also a picky eater. I think she ended up eating some chips and salsa. Also had some meatballs and rice. You can go to the Playa Mia website and see what they have on the buffet menu. You can also go a la carte and not pay for the package and order from the regular menu.

The excursion was also offered through the ship but it was cheaper to book directly through them directly.

He is 2 and it looks like under 4 is free, so that's awesome. Is the buffet worth it? I saw there menu but didn't look like there was much to offer. But then again it's only $15 for the entire day ... less than half the cost of a buffet at a Las Vegas casino for a single meal.

Would those who have been there recommend getting the buffet or doing a la carte

Also I know the have the kiddie splash pad with slides but what is the age or height restriction for the larger slides? Is it only a person at a time or can I got down with my little one? I know he would love it but would have to have someone go with him. We went to a Disney resort in Hawaii when he was 6-months and he loved the water slide that we could go down with our intertube.

When I was doing my research on multiple CC posts, looked like people were split down the middle. Some people did the buffet and they were happy with that, some people did a la carte and they were happy with that choice as well. I think you are going to get mixed opinions. I think the choice is going to come down to you. We ended up getting just to have the option. My wife, who is not a big buffet fan, felt it was fine and she found stuff to eat along with the friend we were with. Not sure if you can do this but maybe you get the transportation, go there and look at the buffet and then you can decide if you want to pay the cost at that time.

Not sure about the slide as we didn't make it over there.

I don't believe they have a height requirement for the big water slides (at least they didn't when we went), but it's only 1 person at a time. They allowed my (I believe she was 3 or 4 at the time and had just learned how to swim) go down and the problem is, I'm always beside her to make sure she is safe or if she wears out. When you go down the slide, you are required to swim straight ahead (and it's a bit of a distance) and she freaked out because I was not there beside her. The worker had to get her because she could not swim the distance. So, unless things have changed, your little one will not be going down until they can swim. :)
