comcox Posted November 3, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 3, 2016 Has anyone been to Cape Verde recently? Will cafes and shops take euros, British pounds, or US dollars or is it necessary to get local currency. My cruise has two port stops there--Mindelo and Praia. Rare CruiseIreland Posted November 3, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 3, 2016 Euros are generally accepted, in addition to the Cape Verde Escudo. CVE is a closed currency and you can change them only on the islands. There are plenty of ATMs that take Visa debit&credit cards.(from Tripadvisor Cape Verde forum.) I'll have euros with as they are currency in our other cruise stops.
babysteps Posted April 21, 2017 #4 Share Posted April 21, 2017 We were just in Mindelo, and our tour guide accepted US$ - although they quoted the price in Euros. Not sure if that is usual with everyone or not, but it was convenient! Slightly OT, two days before our stop our cruise line (Oceania) told us there would be no shuttles in Mindelo. Then the night before our stop the info said there would be a shuttle every half hour or as filled up. Turns out there were at least 3 mini vans first thing (then maybe not as many later?) running continuously to the newish marina on the waterfront in downtown - they did have a scheduled break with last pre-lunch return trip at 12:30 and first post-lunch return trip at 2.
