Yes - The Sonesta Maho Beach Resort does offer a day pass. I emailed the reservations department here is the response.

Good Day,

Thank you for your email.

Yes we do offer day passes at the Sonesta Resorts on St. Maarten.

The day pass is $65.00 per person.

This includes breakfast, lunch, diner, snacks, unlimited drinks (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and use of the hotel facilities.

This can be purchased upon arrival at the Front Desk.

The day pass is at both St. Maarten resorts.

To double check, I called the front desk of the Maho Beach location, and they do offer the day pass. They confirmed all the information above.

What price did they quote you?

I can check when I am in St. Maarten next month as well to Tripple check as this is the first I have read of Maho offering a day pass and not just the Great Bay Sonesta property.

Thanks. I will try and talk DH in to spending a day here during our July vacation. For us it would be worth it for $130 for 3 meals and drinks. It wouldn't be worth it to me on a regular cruise day though as we would only be there from 9-2:30 or 3.

I have seen some great shots of the planes at Maho taken from the roof of the Sonesta so that will definitly give DH something to do while we are there.

Thanks again and I will report back if we make it there next month.

I just emailed them to find out this information - of course I should've checked here first!

They include quite a lot for $65; thanks for sharing the information.

I can certainly understand this if you're on-island and can do the entire day there, breakfast through dinner, but if you're a cruiser and have limited time to spend there to enjoy, I'm not sure that it makes $$ sense.

I kind of did this calculation once before, but let's take another look at an All-Inclusive day vs. a do-it-yourself day on Orient where we go All-In.

The referenced day at Sonesta Maho is $130 for two.

Let's go to Orange Fever. I'm familiar with it and I have some current prices.

First two drinks are included with chair and umbrella, but we'll order some appetizers. $14 for chairs for the day.

* Chicken Wings "Ailes de poulet " : $6

* Mozzarella Cheese Sticks "Bâtons de mozza " : $6

Before lunch we'll go through four beers, a frozen drink and three rum punches. (We're on vacation.) 4x$3, $6, 3x$4 = $30

Order a nice lunch.

Share some Escargot with garlic butter. $6.00

Cheeseburger (black angus) : $10.50

Steak 8oz, american cheese, tomatoe, salad, onion + french fries

Grill Mahi-Mahi with Garlic Butter sauce : $14.50

mixt vegetables & basmati rice

Another beer and a glass of wine with lunch. $3 + $3 = $6

Now we'll settle in for the afternoon with four more beers, two more frozen drinks and two more rum punches. (Hey, we're not driving.) 4x$3, 2x$6, 2x$4 = $32

I think our day at Orange Fever just totals out to $125.

Taxi prices are about the same though Orient is a couple dollars cheaper, and you don't have to worry about traffic or bridge openings.

We report, you decide. :)

I totally agree with you Gary. Here are some other things to consider.

If your ship leaves at 5 or 6 then you should leave Maho at 2:30 or 3 but you could stay at Orient or Le Galion longer because you wouldn't need so much travel and buffer travel time as you would need from Maho.

My DS and DBIL have stayed at Maho and said the food is fine. The gourmet chicken pizza I had at Orange Fever was excellent.

I have not been to the Sonesta Maho yet but DBIL told me last night that the resorts beach was the same as the beach where the planes fly over. That's cool for an hour or two but the beach itself at Maho is not among the best on the island.

If you want to hang out by the pool for the day and consume a lot of alcohol then you would probably make out ok with a 9-3 day at The Sonesta Maho for $65 but it's not a good deal for everyone.

Thank you so much for such wonderful replies to the OP We are deciding what to do for our March 24?? 2014 stop. We have not yet gone off on our own. First we did ships excursions then private excursions or day passes. I think we'll go to Orient Beach via taxi and just wing it!

I inquired about this and received an e-mail this morning that said much the same information but did not include snacks or dinner. Personally I would rather spend my $65 dollars having lunch and drinks while on a beach in Grand Case but to each their own. Now if dinner was included then it would be definitely worth a visit. Most cruisers will need to leave by 3 from Maho to make sure they get back to the ship in time.

The email I got back had pretty much the same information, but one detail that was my deciding factor: the pass is only good for 4 hours. I'm sure they overlook this, but I can't take the chance that they come to escort me out after a 4 hour period, so I will take a taxi to the beach and enjoy my time leisurely.

My email also just mentions lunch and drinks.

3 people e-mailed within a month of each other and all three got different answers from the same resort.

This seems very odd.

The price is the only thing that the Sonesta Maho was consistent about.

They differed on the number of meals and if snacks were included or not, and the amount of time one could enjoy the resort.

I almost posted the exact same statement. :)

Are you available to do some on-site investigation?

gary

I was thinking the same thing. I will have my sister check when she arrives for her stay at the Maho and I will check when I go to visit her. If we get two different answers I will see if I can speak to a manager and clear this up.:)

Does anyone know if the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort offer a day pass for the resort pool & beach?

Just off the phone with the front desk at both Resorts, talked to a supervisor, and they do offer the ALL INCLUSIVE day pass for $65 pp!

Also included is the always open buffet.

These are the details that I was looking for from wallie5446

Just got off the phone with the ft desk at both of the Sonesta Resorts and WHAT A DEAL! We get a full day pass for $65 pp which includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner, snacks, and all drinks, alcoholic or non, plus use of all Hotel facilities, pools and beach! We were ready to book a $129 tour to Pinel Island.

Just so many story versions here.

Karysa, HELP!!!

If it truly included all of this we'd be there in a flash, just a short walk from The Towers to spend the day.

Gary, I also asked about pre-buying the pass with 17,000 extra people on our day in all the beaches will be busy. They said just come to the ft desk, they have plenty of space, but do not pre-sell the pass. Tho it will be a short day for us most of the other tours we have looked at were close to $100 pp and have no where near the benefit's. I can post the phone # if anyone else would like it.

Does anyone know what time the casinos at the Sonesta & the Westin open? Are they one the same property as the resort? The Sonesta sounds like the casino is across the street?

I have two in my group that would love to spend part of their day out of the sun and in the casino while others enjoyed their beach/pool day. I emailed the Westin, but have not received a response.
