First time cruisers

We are going on a cruise and stay on the Thomson Celebration to the Caribbean 8th to 22nd February.First week cruise second week Ocean 2 in Barbados.

I have one or two questions before we go.

1)Is there anything you didn't take and wish you had?

2)Is there anything you did take and wish you hadn't?

3)For the women.I hate wearing tights but will do for a special occasion.Do I

really need to for the captains gala evening?

4)Is it really ok to take soft drinks and water on board?

5)What currency and how much did you take for the weeks cruise part of the

trip?

3) I have never worn tights on holiday :eek: No you don't have to wear tights, just nice strappy sandalls and a long or cocktail dress :)

4) Yes

5)US$ are good and accepted everywhere except Cuba. How much to take is a personal choice, but don't forget that on the ship everything is included, so you just need some for drinks and souvenirs off the ship. Anything bigger, you can use debit card.

Sorry can't think of anything for 1 & 2 at the moment :rolleyes:

P&O seem quite precise in their dress code. Normally I just wear whatever I feel like and it's always been fine. However I don't want to be banned.:eek::eek:;)

Seriously...although we've not yet done the carribean. Far too many toiletries which are readily available on board and far too many 'if it rains', 'if it snows' - unneeded clothes!

apart from my shorts, flip flops & dinner suit... all the rest of my clothes;)

no comment on the tights :o (i refer you to my honourable friends earlier answer);)

we give ourselves $100 per day ( we dont usually spend that much tho)

I like your style Tarquin! That's cheered me up whilst I try to get all these dratted Tax Returns done by 31st!

What do I regret taking?-anything with a fixed waistband lol. Elasticated waist trousers are essential. Especially as the cabin boy shrinks your clothes after a couple of days.....

Reference the money question.

Take more US Dollars than you think you'll need - it can be difficult obtaining more at banks as the $ is not the official currency in your island destinations.

You would have to go through a double currency transaction - Pounds Sterling to local currency, followed by local currency into US Dollars.

Also, take it in small denominations - 1, 5 and 10 dollar notes.

Cocktail dress is usually shorter. Evening dress usually long.

BTW, you can take booze to consume in your cabin onboard as well.

We have found St Kitts and St Maarten the cheapest for duty free booze.

Thanks everyone.One tip of my own;wear new sandals/shoes around the house for a few weeks before you go,and take an older pair in your carry on bag.

I learned the hard way about 30 years ago,wore new shoes(comfortable when I bought them)on a flight to Spain and my feet swelled up on the plane.Couldn't wait to get my case from the carousel at the airport and get older ones from my suitcase.

Yes, but very unfavourable exchange rates.

if you have to use a bank ashore take a second form of official photo ID - my one experience taught me that.

My passport was not enough, fortunately I had a backup ID card.
