How does Laundry work on the cruise? If you need to do some laundry are their washing machines/dryers - if so, how much per load?

Or do you have the option of leaving a bag to be washed in your room and is this expense dramatically higher?

Depends on the ship and cruise line. Some cruise lines have self serve laundry on their ships others don't . Self service is a $3 per load each for wash and dry. Some require quarters others have started to let you use your room card.

You can leave a bag and it takes about 36 hours to do . We budget $60 for a bag of laundry ( 1 per 7 day cruise) . If 10 days or more one bag every 5 days .

Some lines will have a bag special. Everything that fits a one for $35.

Neither RCI or Celebrity have laundries for passenger use. Carnival and Princess (most ships, anyway) do have laundromats...figure about $2 per wash, $2 per dry for a load.

Most lines offer a "bag" of laundry done by the ship for a smaller price than "per piece", but it's wash and fold...no ironing.

If you are in a Neptune Suites on Holland America, you get free laundry service as part of the suite perks. Just fill the bag and leave it for them.

Royal Caribbean usually has one day on a seven day cruise where they run a special for the bag of laundry...sometimes it is not well advertised so you have to look for it.
