Carnival Switching to 6:5 Blackjack

It looks like Carnival is switching to 6:5 BJ on anything less than $25.00. It looks like I might be switching to NCL after my September cruise.

We play enough BJ that our last three Carnival cruises have been complimentary.

Do not play this game AND tell the OPC host WHY you are not!

The low bet recreational player is their target. Friend just off cruise with only "real" blackjack game was $25min.. table never full. 6/5 "blackjack" tables packed. Do the MATH. $6 min tables that use to have a House Edge of just 0.66083 (using prefect Basic Strategy) now has an edge of 2.01 playing BS. The 3/2 table with recreational players NOT playing BS already had an edge of anywhere from 2-2.5 %. Now with 6/5 payout these ploppies are playing at a 4-5% disadvantage. Might as well play roulette or $5 slots!

6 seats betting an average of $8 a hand churns $3,080 an hour. Of every person was a strategy player the casino was making a lowly $28.03 per hour when BJ paid 3/2. By switching to 6/5 this table now steals $76.80 per hour.

If the table was full of "recreational" players not correctly using Basic Strategy the numbers go from $86.40 p/h to an astronomical $211.20 p/h.

Keep in mind I'm using a very low average bet amount. From my experience in Carnival Casinos on a busy night, the avg bet size figuring doubles/splits, higher min bets and "crazy" progressive bets we've all seen (and/or done!), the true avg hand is closer to $18 to $24.

Regardless, OPC in increasing their "Blackjack" (6/5 is NOT real blackjack and refuse to play it) is going to nearly TRIPLE their bottom line!

The question is, how many BS players will stomach an increase in their Bankroll from $180-$240 to avoid ROR (Risk of Ruin) on a $6 game to a"staggering" $750-$1000 Bankroll to play the $25 game.

Glad I switched to video poker way back when.....even with their crappy pay tables, you can get a decent return with a ton of action per the point rules......I am down to pretty much sticking with NCL unless Carnival sends me another free one......

CCl slots=2.50 in =1 point

VP =5.00 in =1 point

NCL slots 5.00 in =1 point

VP=10.00 in = 1 point Which is why we won't sail NCL. Pure GREED. Played all around the country in lower 40 states traveling in our camper and never heard of such greed at the slots.

Evidently you have never played in a Caesars / Harrah's property.

While the NCL points require more coin in to get, I have found the benefits to also be of more value than Carnival. The other positive for NCL VP is that they offer options besides the 10 credit single line machines that make up 100% of Carnival's VP inventory and they have some ships (Getaway/Jewel for sure) that offer bar top single line machines so quicker service. :)

I try to stay away from Harrahs operated casinos. Several Indian casinos (only game in town) we visited in our travels, dealers complained how they felt the tribe was being ripped off by Harrahs operation. The slots at Harrahs are the tightest we have ever seen.

If it is a 6:5 table with a $6 minimum bet how can they pay $7.20 for a blackjack :confused::confused:

the first bet with a 6:5 payout is $10 followed by $15

More than likely they short you the 20 cents.

When Carnival says a six dollar minimum bet they allow you to bet five dollars like a regular BJ table and one dollar on the side bet (fun pairs, royal match or whatever it is called).

Either way it won't matter to me. I have now learned craps and I will spend most of my time playing that or $25.00 BJ.

I refuse to play 6:5 BJ and the day that is all there is I will play craps or not at all.

Short change you is typical. I play a lot of blackjack on P&O where the table minimum is £3 with 8 decks dealer shuffled S17 etc etc. Reasonable for recreational play but at 6:5  Maybe it will not spread to other Carnival brands., especially as there is only one table available per ship on P&O. It seems we are not big gamblers.
