Stresa, Como, Lugano, we would like to spend 2 nights in one of them, then we are on to Venice.

Can anyone advise their experience in the lake district, which is better choice for scenery, atmosphere, etc

Thanks!

Each one is quite different and unique - have you researched/read about them? I have been to Lugano (beautiful) and loved it of course - I don't think you can go wrong with any one of them but of course, Como would be amazing...don't know if I'll get the chance but would love to ;) Also, Lugano is Swiss and Italian whereas the others are "only Italy" (as if this is a bad thing?) but some travelers enjoy the experience of an additional country visit, so, there you have it.

The Borromean Islands are said to be amazing in quite another magical way - Hemingway once stayed at the Grand Hotel but then he did get around - and Princess Caroline of Monaco's son recently married into the Borromeo family...on one of their islands ;)

In some ways, visiting Stresa or Lugano might be nice in that fewer people go to these places than to Como - makes for more interesting travel stories all around. However, Como is always magical.

There is no wrong choice :) Enjoy
