What else to do in Windsor?

Recommended Posts

Other than WIndsor Castle, what else can you do in Windsor?

There's a Great Windsor Park that seems interesting, but they should call it the Very, Very Long Walk to get to Windsor Park from Windsor Castle. The name Long Walk implies its walkable, but is it really walkable?

Or, do you have to take a taxi?

How much would it cost to take a taxi from Windsor Castle to Windsor Great Park to see The Valley Gardens and Virigina Water Lake? Are the taxis in Windsor as expensive as the London cabs?

If you are there on a day when there is an event on your could go to Windsor Races (horse racing). There is a boat that runs from central Windsor to get there, it takes 10 minutes

The same people that run the boat to the race course, also do river sightseeing trips

Or you could just wander across the bridge to Eton, which is quite pretty. It is walkable from the castle

If you did decided to take the walk then it is only a little further to walk to Runnymede meadow where King John signed Magna Carta.

It does require a walk down a hill, It's not too bad I used to do it regularly when I lived in Englefield Green whilst studying at Royal Holloway. Although I was a little younger and fitter back then.

The long walk is I think approx 1.5-2 miles each way.

Rometorio are more than likely measuring to King George III statue, whereas google is measuring to the far side of the park. We walked up to the statue and then returned back To Windsor. If you do go, be careful of the wild deer roaming along the long walk.

Last time I was in Windsor, after we'd been to the Castle, we just walked down to the river and sat there, watching the children feeding the swans and ducks. It was very relaxing.

The Windsor Great Park website I linked to says "This impressive three mile long tree-lined avenue begins at the George IV Gateway at Windsor Castle and ends at the magnificent Copper Horse statue."
