jeepers13 Posted August 3, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2016 We'll embark on Carnival Miracle Sep 3rd (!) to sail to Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta. Yeah! I've searched and can't find any mention of ruins, petroglyphs or other signs of ancient peoples around there. Does anybody know of any?

You can't find any mention of ancient ruins because there aren't any. The ancient cultures of the Mayans, Aztecs and Olmecs were in southern and central Mexico. (I used to live in Mazatlan--If there had been ancient ruins anwhere around there, I would have gone to see them!)
Rosefloater Posted August 3, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 3, 2016 There is a museum in Cabo near the old church. It shows the history of Baja Sur from ancient times to now. Op - there are ruins about an hout outside of Manzanillo. The archeologists aren't sure who these people were.
Ine Posted August 3, 2016 #4 Share Posted August 3, 2016 From Puerto Vallarta on a long day tour (hardly doable if you are on a cruiseship) there is Guachimontones, a unique Archaeological site. No tours are offered, you need to find a private driver.

Cabo History Museum info https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g152515-d6355895-Reviews-Museo_de_Historia_Natural-Cabo_San_Lucas_Los_Cabos_Baja_California.html Off of the Main Plaza, an easy walk from the ship. Like most museums in Mexico it's free but donations are gladly accepted. It's a '30 minute' museum.
