Went to South America on a 49 day cruise in Feb/14. Most memorable tour was to the Falkland Islands, Port Stanley. We went to Volunteer Point to see the King Penguins and babies, also saw Gentoos and Magallens! We booked with Jimmy Curtis. His email is jim.tan@horizon.co.fk He was an excellent guide and he even took us for a tour around town and then to the local pub and bought us a beer! We had an awesome experience!!

We are also signed up with pwatts for a tour. It says 4x4. Do you remember what kind of car it was? Thank you.

It varies, they are the locals and they drive different models. Ours was some kind of Toyota.

For those who have done this, how rough is it. On most of these tours there is the warning of people with back problems etc. It has really made me gun shy about doing any of these tours, ie Volunteer Point, Bluff Cove etc.

Thank you for your help. :)

I have mild back and neck issues, but chose to take the Bluff Cove tour. It was somewhat rough, but not really a problem and I would certainly take such a trip again. At least on the day we went, the off-road portion was very wet and muddy. The twists and lurches of the vehicle (a Land Rover) were less abrupt and less problematic in these very muddy conditions than would be the case in a dry country with firmer ground.

Thanks to your post, we are signed up to go with Jimmy to hang around with the penguins. Can you tell us what we want to get for shoes/rubber boots/overshoes/sandals(ha ha) when we are wandering around in the stuff? Thanks! Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

We did see a few wearing surgical booties over their shoes, not a bad idea but not 100% required. We really did not have trouble with droppings on our shoe though there are droppings everywhere.
