funtimex2 Posted January 1, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 1, 2015 Can't find any recent information on Verizon phone use in Martinique. Don't want to return from our cruise with a phone bill that cost more than the cruise itself. Thanks
Rare Stockjock Posted January 17, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 17, 2015 Can't find any recent information on Verizon phone use in Martinique. Don't want to return from our cruise with a phone bill that cost more than the cruise itself. Thanks I think that, generally, it's best to not even turn on your cell phone if you can avoid it. Although I believe texts are the standard 50 cents to send and 5 cents to receive (plus data, if any). Data can be crazy expensive, so generally turn off data roaming if there's the slightest doubt. Voice is also expensive on Martinique, I believe. I'm going to bring a tablet and maybe do Skype in a coffee shop, or the like.
JohnBoy in NC Posted February 5, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 5, 2015 Can't find any recent information on Verizon phone use in Martinique. Don't want to return from our cruise with a phone bill that cost more than the cruise itself. Thanks Recommend getting $25 global data plan from Verizon...gives you a discount on calling ($2.29 min per their website for Martinique) http://www.verizonwireless.com/wcms/global/plans-and-pricing.html We just upgraded iphone to a 5s and had no issues on cruise ship (used imessaging for free..texts to other devices were .50 send, 0.05 to receive) or in ports. Wife could check Facebook here and there and used to communicate with kids here and there. The reason I say this is with Verizon the 4s did not work on any ship (several cruises)...but there are some articles on the web regarding this. The 5s/LTE carrier issue with Verizon seems to have been solved wth the iphone 5 (issue seemed to be cruise ship network not a preferred carrier and the iphone 4 would not seek/connect to it). So if you have a smartphone with Verizon...the $25 data deal will prevent any crazy bills. John in NC
smokinmike Posted February 5, 2015 #4 Share Posted February 5, 2015 Agree with the $25 Verizon Global suggestion - use it all the time in Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean.

MisterBill99 Posted October 30, 2015 #6 Share Posted October 30, 2015 (edited) The global Verizon plan has changed to $40 for 100 min/ 100 outbound texts and 100 mb of data, unlimited incoming text messages. Check out http://www.verizonwireless.com/tripplannerHave a great cruise!! If you don't need minutes/texts you can still get the 100mb of data for $25. Since I'm planning to buy the Internet package on Anthem, I may just skip the Verizon data package, and just make sure I turn off data roaming. Of course, given that the charge (as well as the allocation) is pro-rated, it could pay to turn it on for a couple of weeks while we are away, just in case.
