Talisker92 Posted July 29, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 29, 2014 ocean princess or prinsendam? No comparison! I have been on both, and would go with the Ocean Princess. It is a newer ship than the Prinsendam, which is the old Royal Viking Sun, built in 1988. The Prinsendam was modified by tearing out the aft dining room and adding cabins. The Ocean Princess was built in 1999, and is one of the Renaissance ships. Others sail for Oceania Cruise Lines.
Rare Keith1010 Posted July 30, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 30, 2014 I actually would say the Prinsendam. If this was me I would do a lot of reading on each ship. You can read members reviews and also read the respective cruise line boards. Keith
dorisis Posted July 30, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 30, 2014 Tough choice. Both have lots to offer. Get as much info as you can from reviews and the HAL and Princess forums here. When is the cruise and what are the ports?
flamomo Posted July 30, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 30, 2014 I would choose the Ocean Princess ..... have sailed on her twice, and she is a lovely" little lady". which is what one of her Captains referred to her as. Less than 700 passengers, and excellent service from all of the crew onboard. I admit that I know nothing about any HAL ship, as I am one of the Princess faithfuls with over 20 cruises with them. race ave al Posted July 30, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted July 30, 2014 thank you fellow polywogs for your valuable input. we plan on going in jan. '16, and frankly, the ship that gets the most plaudits will be the ship we take. the itineraries vary slightly, but since this is our 1st s/a cruise, if we don't see MANAUS, so be it. race ave al:):

zoncom Posted July 30, 2014 #8 Share Posted July 30, 2014 Also consider Ruby Princess or Celebrity Infinity for a longer SA.cruises. Both are bigger, better quality ships with more on board options, restaurants. entertainment.
Grannycb Posted July 30, 2014 #9 Share Posted July 30, 2014 Given a choice between one of the 700 passenger Princess ships and any larger ship, the smaller ship would be our choice every time, especially for a port intensive cruise. Exiting and boarding the ship at ports goes so much quicker than on the larger ones. Variety is good, large ships for Caribbean and small ships for more unique itineraries. Everyone has different thoughts on ships, you'll need to think about what works best for you.
