Kartgv Posted November 12, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2015 We're taking advantage of hotel points for free nights pre-cruise - 2 at the Four Points Darling Harbour, then moving on to the Marriott Circular Quay. We're familiar with the Circular Quay area but are looking for suggestions for a nice dinner in the Darling Harbour area - preferably within walking distance from the hotel. BTW - walking distance for us (bad knees, bad back, just generally falling apart!) means maybe 6-8 blocks, not much further. We're open to a short taxi ride if it gets us to a great spot. The_Big_M Posted November 12, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2015 There are a lot of eateries in the Darling Harbour area alone, and then even more further on into Haymarket, Pyrmont and Town Hall. However, just focussing on Darling Harbour, the more traditional restaurants are in the Harbourside complex, Cockle Bay and the Star city casino. Darling Quarter has some more modern style casual restaurants e.g. Brazilian barbecue. It really comes down to taste/preference and budget, but you have a plethora of choices there. Albert Bell Posted November 12, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 12, 2015 TheCyren Bar and Grill has very good food and the happy hour makes it even better. We go there every time we're in Sydney.:)
MadWoofter Posted November 12, 2015 #4 Share Posted November 12, 2015 It all comes down to price & taste !! There is everything from 5* to cafes, and practically every cuisine available. My picks would be: (prices are an average for one main) The Malaya on King St Wharf (Malaysian) $25-$30 The Meat & Wine Co at Darling Quarter (Steakhouse) - $40-$50 Nick's Seafood at Cockle Bay - $35-$40 (I think it's a bit over-rated but it's always busy) Baia at Cockle Bay (Italian) - $25-$35 Zaaffran at Harbourside Centre(fancy Indian) - $25-$35 The Little Snail at Pyrmont (French) - $35-$40 (just over the other side of the Pyrmont Bridge so not a long walk) Otherwise there are lots of cafes and bars which are cheaper. Generally I find the Cockle Bay side of Darling Harbour (the side your hotel is on) is better. A good general café is the Blackbird Café which is on the upper level of Dockside, and there are some great pubs along King St Wharf which do good food. If you have any preferences for cuisines, or style (ie fancy or café) let me know and I'll see what else I can find.
