jwas1 Posted February 15, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2007 Is the Southern Cross visible in Tahiti?
Rare gdlamberth Posted February 15, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 15, 2007 Because Tahiti is only 17 degrees South (as I recall) it depends on the time of the year.
Wendy The Wanderer Posted February 16, 2007 #3 Share Posted February 16, 2007 I'm not enough of an astronomer to answer (didn't know it was seasonal), but I have seen the southern cross on French Polynesia in the spring (April and May.) It helps to take a star chart, so you know where to look.
canadagal Posted February 16, 2007 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2007 We saw it mid March. The PG cruise director took us all up on deck forward to the bow, then the lights were dimmed and he pointed it out and gave a little talk about it as well as handing out maps......don't know if they still do that though as this was back in 2003 but it was one of the highlights of our trip. schmidlapp Posted February 16, 2007 #5 Share Posted February 16, 2007 Ernie the master tender driver will do a stargazing night on deck if you have a night at sea. He will point out the southern cross when visible..
