Casino in Old San Juan?

We(six of us) stayed there the night before a cruise in 2005. We had a fun time walking around town then went to their casino around midnight. It was very quiet with maybe 10 people playing slots, a roulette table going and 2 black jack tables going. I was playing big and went down about $2000 in twenty minutes or so. I then got hot, got my money back and was up $2360. How do I know this number? They swithced dealers at that point, then before another card was dealt they called for the decks to be changed and that it would be about 5 minutes. We got up and went to the cage to cash in. The floor person asked why we were leaving, I laughed. When I got to the cage, I had to wait about five minutes for my money, it seemed like they did not have enough to cover my chips. I finally got it and we went to bed. I had a tough time sleeping. I had the feeling that someone was going to come to my room and ask for the money back. Once on the ship the next day we all had a good laugh about it. Overall I did not have a good vibe about this place.

DH and I will be in San Juan next Wed. on the Holland America Nieuw Amsterdam. We have been to SJ a number of times, so thought we would stroll around Old San Juan and stop at the casino. We are in port until 11pm, so the ship's casino won't be open until after we sail and that is kinda late to be going to the casino, for me anyway. Interesting to read everyone's comments - some loose, some tight which is about par for opinions. We have been in some interesting and small casinos in Curacao. St. Maarten, etc. that seemed rather questionable, too. Oh well, we'll give the Sheraton a try next week.

Good luck to whoever is going to OSJ next week. Just leave a couple winning pots for us we will be there in a little over two weeks.

haha - see you there! we also always go to this casino when we cruise. it is dark and dirty, but it's a change of scenery. last year my friend won $8K in about an half hour. It took almost an hour to pay her, but she walked away with her winnings.
