Wedding Questions

Recommended Posts

I am having my wedding on the Norwegian Sky in September. We are having a harborside wedding in Miami.

I was told our wedding would be around 12:30, so we have a cocktail hour from 1:30-3:00. I was told the Muster drill would be around 4 and the ship leaves around 5. We have dinner reservations for 6:30.

Has anyone had a harborside wedding that can offer me advice as to whether or not I should change out of my dress prior to the muster drill? I don't want to look ridiculous wearing it there, or for a few hours in between, but I wanted to have us still dressed for dinner so we could take photos. Is that stupid?

Also, I'm a little confused as to the initial boarding. I was told we could board separate, but the coordinator would come and talk to us together. Is there a way to NOT see each other beforehand???

Thanks!!

I just got married on the Carnival Imagination so this may not be the same info as for Norwegian. We met the coordinator and officiant at the port at 10:30am. My bride did her makeup and hair and carried the dress on in a hanging bag. We were escorted on to the ship around 11:30 and she was able to use our stateroom to get ready for our 1pm ceremony. We then had a 1:30 - 3pm reception and took pictures after around the ship. We got back to our room just as they were calling the muster drill and did a quick change and made it there just in time.

I changed out of my dress as soon as we were done with the ceremony and photos (we did not have a reception, just cake and champagne), but we did not dress up for dinner that night. Are you wanting photos AT dinner, or just photos of everyone? Do you have other wedding party members you are expecting to be dressed up at dinner?

Personally I was really happy to have everything done and be able to enjoy sail away out on the deck in comfy clothes, but it is your day so you should do things the way you want to!! Just don't be surprised if others want to change in between.

I have a review of my harbor side wedding in my signature. Feel free to ask questions. We arrived and boarded together. They told us they could try to keep us separate if we wanted, but they couldn't guarantee it.

Although it was not shipboard, our wedding was sort of dockside. We were married in Santorini, and after the ceremony we changed into touring clothes

It was not the first wedding for either of us. We both lost our spouses.

That is our ship in the background

If you will enjoy being in your wedding clothes then stay dressed. It is your day and you should enjoy it. The crew will accommodate you. On some cruise lines people are seated in lounges and do not even bring their life jackets.

I have been married 45 years and the dress still hangs in my closet. I have many pictures and memories of that special day but the dress has only been worn once.

It's such a special day-make it last as long as you can. Wishing you a lifetime of happiness and many honeymoons for years to come.

As a passenger I've seen several brides and grooms still in their gowns and tuxes at muster. Don't know if they were married onboard or not.

Just be careful using any escalators in your gown, easier to take the elevator. B

My daughter wanted to stay in her dress as long as she could, she loved it! So everyone sailing wore our wedding outfits to dinner. At the muster dril, the crew let her sit down, but was cut short anyway due to rain. She doesn't really like a lot of attention, but she thought it was fun walking around the ship as a bride!

Another relative that got married on a ship, changed right away after the reception. So do what makes you happiest, it's such a fun experience!

For some reason, I never got notification of replies on this thread, so I just now saw them.

Thanks to all of the responses. At this point, I still haven't decided what I'm going to do. I have a white cocktail dress that I'm be taking with me in the event I want to change, but I really would like some night photos, so I may really try to stay in it as long as possible.

I am getting married on embarkation day, too and pretty much follow your same schedule - on the Carnival Victory. I am planning on staying in my dress as long as possible. I spent countless hours looking for the right dress, quite a bit of money on it and I plan on wearing my dress as long as possible.

My FH said that he will be out of the suit the minute our photos are done and that is cool, too!

I was married on a Carnival ship in January this year. Our pictures were not taken until after the muster drill so we wore our wedding clothes to Muster and then after pictures we changed and went to dinner in our regular clothes that night as it was embarkation day.
