Two great recommendations!! Cafe du Monde is indeed a must, but you could do that for an afternoon snack or late night bite. Mother's is delicious as well. But the end-all, be-all breakfast in NO is at Brennan's. Here's an article by Tom Fitzmorris, who knows every single restaurant in the area :) check out the rest of the site as well. He won't steer you wrong. http://nomenu.com/?p=4678

I like Mothers but prefer it for lunch (Debris po boy and jerrys jambalaya). For breakfast I'd recommend the Ruby Slipper. From Riverside you can either go down poydras and take a right on magazine...three blocks down on your right. Or go down canal and take a left on magazine...one block down on your left.

I like the Ruby Slipper but be ready to wait in line so get there early. It is that popular.

If you going upscale yes Brennans is special.

Another place in the Quarter itself is Café Fleur De Lis.

But want true French Quarter, historic with good food, we do this every Mardi Gras day. http://www.theoldcoffeepot.com/

If you've never tried Ruby Slipper..I highly recommend it. We've been twice and now Pensacola has installed its own branch! We are going to check out 2 chicks cafe on this trip...It happens to be located right next to our long term parking....

Had bananas foster french toast there two weeks ago....good stuff.
