Check in at port

Recommended Posts

We are going on the Majesty from Malaga next Thursday and I have read somewhere you can do a priority check in at the cruise terminal before you get on the ship. I'm not really fancying a 3 hour check in queue to get on the ship as we were told we would have time to explore Malaga before sailing. If anybody can help I would be most grateful!

Presumably you will be given an 'earliest' time to present yourself at the port. If you go earlier you run the risk of the receptionists not being there to process you. Having checked that out, if I were in your position I'd check up on the arrival times of the flights coming in from the UK and giving them time to collect luggage and be transferred to the port, you could estimate if/when there is likely to be a rush on. For example if four flights arrive in a half hour window, the check-in will be busy as they all arrive at the port more or less at the same time. You could try to just beat the bulk of passengers arriving or look for a gap.

But as ormy says, I've never experienced a long wait for check-in at the port (unlike at the airport) - remember not all passengers will be arriving together - Thomson fly/cruise operation has stageered timings therefore arrivals (almost all of the passengers) will be on flights so you can roll up at an 'in between time' and I wouldn't be surprised if you can walk straight up to check-in.

The longest wait we had was the TA last year boarding in Lisbon as there were delays at passport control due to industrial action and several flights arriving within half an hour of each other. We were lucky that ours was one of the earliest and that we had one of the new electronic passports and maybe had a half hour wait.

Oh I'd forgotten about that Little Nell! And wasn't it cold too? But an unusual situation - I was just glad we were allowed to board and sail in the circumstances - I'd got visions of us not getting on board at all! Good job we had some lovely Caribbean sunshine to look forward to! ;)

I forgot as well and answered this question yesterday on FB and said that we had never had to wait :D

The old grey cells are not what they used to be ;)

We sailed the week before last from Malaga on the Majesty. All the planes from the Uk seemed to arrive within minutes of each other and so we all arrived at the port at the same time. There was a long queue but it moved very quickly and we were soon on the ship. Our luggage was waiting for us at our cabin door. As we didn't leave till 9pm there was plenty time to go into Malaga, but we chose just to stay on board and explore the ship.

I was very impressed with the Majesty after reading a few bad reviews. It is well looked after, very clean and in good condition. i would have no hesitation in booking again. Enjoy your cruise!

Just back this evening from the ' Majesty'.

Although we knew check in for independent travellers was officially 12 noon we actually got through the Malaga traffic much quicker than expected and found ourselves at the terminal at 10.30!

We knew this was far too early but asked one of the ships officers we saw by the terminal door if there was anywhere we could leave our luggage and go into Malaga for an hour or so.

He radioed to someone and a minute later told us he had arranged for the 'priority' check in desk to be opened so we could check in immediately although our cabin would not be ready for an hour. He then escorted us up to the desk and 5 minutes later (about 10.45) we were on board. An hour later we tried our cabin door to find everything ready and our luggage in situ.

Great service and very much appreciated. This afternoon we stayed on board until 4 p.m. so had the best part of an 8 day holiday.
