Corfe Mixture Posted October 22, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 22, 2014 I will be on the Ocean Princess in August. I am wondering what to do at these ports - St Helier, Jersey ? Personally I would forget about the town of St Helier itself, Unlike St Peter Port in Guernsey it is very commercialised. Pretty, but commercialised. Instead I would take the bus (Routes 1 and 1A - I think) to Gorey. Beautiful view of the coast line. Gorey has much more of an 'island feel' about it and is overlooked by Mont Orgueil Castle . Visit the castle and then, on the way back hop off the bus at Grouville, and visit the Seymour Inn for a proper pub lunch. The oysters could not be fresher (the oyster beds are the other side of the road!) and if you want a real meal you can get fresh fish and steaks. Whilst you are enjoying your day keep an eye on the sea and make sure that you note the height of tide throughout your day. Jersey has a very high tidal range and the difference between the seascape at Gorey/Grouville at HW and LW is awesome. Whilst you are in the Seymour Inn, you might even persuade someone to let you use their darts so that you can play our traditional pub game of darts. phabric Posted October 22, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted October 22, 2014 When, I went to Guernsey, I took the town bus all around the island and really enjoyed it. Is that the type of bus you are talking? Where would I get it? Guernsey's bus had a 1 ride price and also an all day price. What is the cost? Jersey is larger than Guernsey The central hub is right in the centre of St Helier there are many buses ...not sure if any go the whole of the island but they eventually lead back to St Helier ;) Check for a map of St Helier is should show the location http://www.jersey.com/english/discoverjersey/mapping/Pages/default.aspx I think they have a day pass system ..it has been awhile since we have been there I agree ..Gorey is a nice place to visit Enjoy Lyn Edited October 22, 2014 by LHT28

cole Posted October 24, 2014 #9 Share Posted October 24, 2014 Milford Haven - take a trip to Pembroke Castle. My sister-in-law and I took the Princess tour to Pembroke Castle. The only cruise ship cruise we did and it was excellent. I believe it was about 6 hours long, had lunch at a neat little pub and also toured St. David's and another castle. Well worth our time and money. At St. Helier, we had booked a private tour for 12 people and enjoyed it very much. The St. Helier tour included the WWII sites.
