bobetpine Posted January 20, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2017 Hello all, I read that you can pay (at par) in $US instead of euros on the French side. Do you have any experience doing this? Is it widespread at beach bars and lolos? thanks
SnorkelAway Posted January 20, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2017 Accepting 1 for 1, dollar for euro, is pretty common at french-side beach bars and lolos - unless you know of particular reason to have euros for some particular purchase, there is no reason to worry about having euros with you. Ski Mom 2 Posted January 20, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 20, 2017 (edited) We paid in US dollars for our entire weeks stay in Grand Case without any issues. The only place that didn't convert $1 for 1 euro was the French bakery in Grand Case. The food was so wonderful there we didn't care! Rare Hlitner Posted January 20, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 20, 2017 We have spent weeks on the French side (in Grand Case) and every place will accept US Dollars. However, the exchange rate does differ from place to place with some actually giving a better then official exchange rate for dollars, and others giving a less favorable rate. For cruisers only spending a day on the island we would suggest just using US Dollars. For those of us who stay on the island we liked to carry both currencies and use whichever was most advantageous. Hank
Karysa Posted January 20, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 20, 2017 We have eaten at restaurants in Grand Case that will accept US $ on par with the euro as long as you pay in cash and not by credit card so keep that in mind while paying.

Ski Mom 2 Posted January 20, 2017 #7 Share Posted January 20, 2017 (edited) The bakery is around the corner from The Rainbow Cafe. Here is the link to their FB page. Everything we had was wonderful! We brought breakfast back to our balcony overlooking the beach every morning for a week and also had a couple of sandwiches from there at lunch as well. Hands down SO much better than Sarafina's in Marigot. And I just paid cash in US dollars and didn't care about the price since it was worth every dollar/euro!! Enjoy!! https://m.facebook.com/pg/Sarl-Sxm-Bakery-Le-Moulin-249493575229373/photos/?mt_nav=1 Sent from my iPhone using Forums Edited January 20, 2017 by Ski Mom
